Releases from the Colorado Springs Police Department and the Downtown Partnership say that, as of noon on Friday, Nov. 25, volunteers rocking bright orange vests will be occupying (friendly-like) the streets of downtown Colorado Springs.

"They may also be sporting orange ball or stocking caps, and black shoulder bags to hold maps and other literature," says the Partnership. "Who are these folks? They're part of a new project of Downtown Ambassadors. Their role will be mainly customer-service focused, but they'll also be a valuable set of 'eyes and ears' to help keep Downtown safe."

The groups have been trained in safety by the police department, and will be patrolling in three-hour shifts between noon and 8 p.m.

"These highly trained volunteers are excited to help you make the most of your downtown experience," says the CSPD. "Working in teams of two, not only will they provide a visible presence (look for them in their bright orange apparel) but they will act as your personal concierge service. If you have questions on parking, garage hours/fees, or need a map with a grid of downtown, they are eager to assist."
