Douglas Bruce, author of the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights as well as a former state legislator and El Paso County commissioner, has been found guilty this afternoon in Denver of charges related to tax evasion, according to media reports and tweets from the courtroom.
The charges included filing a false return, evading state taxes, attempting to influence a public servant and failing to file returns between 2005 and 2010.
Bruce has been ordered to give up his passport, and he must report for sentencing on Feb. 13.

That arrogant narcissistic destructive media hog deserves to spend a lot to time in prison, which no doubt will be a better place than one of his slums.
He's the current version of Scrooge and Mr. Potter from It's A Wonderful Life...
Doug Bruce has been a blight on this community for years, costing all of us a small fortune with his never-ending sociopathic antics and lawsuits. It is gratifying to know that he has finally been held accountable for his long-time deception, corruption, and criminal behavior, and I look forward to him being remanded into custody on February 13th, hopefully for a long time. And...I hope the judge orders him to pay the maximum in restitution to reimburse the citizens of Colorado for the vast sums of money he has cost us to respond and defend against his myriad groundless and frivolous lawsuits.
I'm sure the mental gymnasts over at the Gazette are now concocting an eloquent Our View piece of crap about how Bruce's downfall is a great loss of "freedom" for us. Bwahahaha
If he's guilty, by all means, string him up by his testicles till it hurts. If you think he's crazy by proposing that the people vote to control spending by our out of control government officials (re: 14 trillion national debt), then read Atlas Shrugged. Yes, I know it's fiction, but it's an amazing parallel into what could be and in some instances, is. If you believe in the redistribution of wealth, please paypal me.
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
Steve, if you believe that redistribution of wealth doesn't exist outside of government perhaps you should donate some of your hard earned money to Mr. Bruce's legal defense. It seems unlikely that he would choose not to appeal. The question is no longer IF he's guilty. He has been adjudicated so. The remaining question is what punishment is appropriate to the crimes he has been convicted of committing.
Prosody, point being, I suppose he could be found not guilty upon verdict on an appeal. As to your other point, I'm not aware of other forms of redistribution of wealth that are mandatory, punishable by law.
Who is Douglas Bruce? Maybe Atlas shrugged, but Douglas Bruce is no Atlas. What if Douglas Bruce went on strike? Could the rest of us survive?
