Son Volt announced as Meadowgrass headliner

Meadowgrass Musical Festival — the Memorial Day weekend event that's brought to town acts ranging from Magnolia Electric Company to Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band — has announced that Son Volt will be a headliner at this year's event.

One of the two bands that rose up from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo (the other being Wilco), Son Volt was founded back in the mid-’90s by Jay Farrar. Through the years, the group has diversified its country rock/roots/Americana sound, but there's still plenty of Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers in the mix.

Most recently, Farrar has been indulging his Woody Guthrie obsession, working with members of Varnaline and My Morning Jacket on an album of unfinished songs by the late political-folk pioneer that's due out next month.
