Today, students at the University of Denver's Environmental Law Clinic filed suit in federal court to block Christo and the late Jeanne-Claude's Over the River Project. The students are filing on behalf of OTR's main opponent, the citizen-led Rags Over the Arkansas River group (ROAR).
Though the suit was filed as part of the clinic, which has "provided real world experience for students interested in both developing practical legal skills and exploring the practice of environmental law," it could still present problems for OTR.
Unlike the other suit ROAR is filing, in which it claims the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Board violated its own regulations in granting its approval to the project, the DU suit is a case built on concern for the environmental and recreational damage it feels the project will cause to the area.
A copy of the suit can be read here:
This comes just a day before citizens will meet with Fremont County commissioners, who will decide if county lands will be made available for the project. (Click here for more information.)
