It's been a long time coming, but the wait will be worth it. The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center's 75th anniversary mural executed by Eric Bransby, with the help of Trevor Thomas, will be revealed at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 20, at a public dedication ceremony.
According to Tuesday's press release, FAC CEO and president Sam Gappmayer and museum director Blake Milteer recently visited the commission to check in on its progress. With over a year's work behind them, the parties were apparently able to agree upon a date.
When the Indy first spoke to Bransby and Thomas last April, they were finishing up the preliminary life-size drawings that would serve as templates for the mural panels. Later that year, they were well into painting the panels, but Bransby was mum on a projected finish date.
Progress did slow with the passing of Bransby's wife, Mary Ann, last August. Yet when we spoke with Bransby several weeks after, he was in relatively good spirits, glad to be back working.
The FAC's press release also says that this will be Bransby's last mural.
