Last Friday, the El Paso County Democratic Party thought it had secured national TV talker Ed Schultz for its upcoming fundraiser. But surprise! Apparently Schultz didn't do his homework before accepting the gig, and had no idea that his employer, MSNBC, has some policy against its blatantly partisan talk-show ranters appearing at political fundraisers.

To do so, I guess, would just come across as being too biased.

(Sidenote, if you Google "Ed Schultz slams" you'll find that that's how he spends a lot of his time — slamming.)

So this morning, we got another press release from the Peak Dems informing us that they have now secured trusty ol' Jim Hightower as the event's keynote speaker.

Below are the details:

Join us on Saturday, February 25 at 5 pm for the First Annual Will Rogers Dinner and Gala (formally the St. Patrick’s Day Gala) at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. What an amazing evening is planned! Rich Tosches of the Colorado Springs Independent will be the Master of Ceremonies and Lt. Governor Joe Garcia will be providing a special welcome. There will be: a silent and live auction; an outstanding menu; fabulous entertainment; as well as extraordinary guest speakers! You don’t want to miss this year’s dinner!

Dress: Western Elegant -(boots, bolas, and bowties encouraged, but optional)

Tickets are $90 per person. Call 473-8713 or click here: Peak Dems First Annual Will Rogers Dinner and Gala

Host Committee

Honorary Chair Susan Daggett
