There will not be a pistol-shooting challenge this Thursday evening between the candidates for the 5th Congressional District, despite my belief that this is the only real way to prove who is the stronger supporter of the 2nd Amendment.
What there will be, however, is a public forum starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the VFW Post, 430 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Slated to attend are three of the candidates vying to represent the 5th Congressional District: three-term U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, Republican newcomer Robert Blaha and Libertarian Jim Pirtle.
The forum is being hosted by the Pikes Peak Firearms Coalition, and will be the first such event where Lamborn will face his opposition this election season.
According to Harry Dierks, the directory of publicity for PPFC, it will be a moderated forum, with questions taken from the audience. And while the primary concern for his organization will be the 2nd Amendment, the conversation won't be limited only to gun rights.
