Hey ladies! A new local 527 has launched a media campaign with the goal of drawing you away from the president and to "the other guy."
Laura Carno, a political strategist who worked as the chief of staff on the successful mayoral campaign for Steve Bach as well as for the not-so-successful congressional campaign for Robert Blaha, has set her sights on the national level with her I Am Created Equal campaign.
Together we have stories that need to be told. Stories of families being treated as dependents, stories of women having to fight for equal rights–as if they didn’t already have them, and stories of government excess, of a nanny state that thinks it knows better than you how to run your life.
So far, Carno has produced a radio spot that plays hard to the notion that Washington politicians, and especially President Barack Obama, are meddling in the rights of Americans.
"Hey Washington politicians, how about this? I'll take care of my insurance. I'll decide what soda to drink, and I'll get my own birth control, thank you very much," the ad begins.
The ad's narrator, a pleasant but calmly frustrated mother type, scolds Washington politicians for wasting their time with new laws and bailouts, while they should be focusing on balancing the budget, protecting the country, and getting "out of the way."
"President Obama, you were supposed to understand all of this. But you waste more, spend more and get less done than anyone I can remember. In my world, you leave me with two choices: I can stop believing in my country or I can give the other guy a try."
The other guy that she's referring to, we're assuming, is Gary Johnson.
The ads will start this Monday in the Colorado Springs market. The campaign will run throughout election season.
In a press release, Carno states:
“The President’s campaign implies that women should vote for the President for re-election because he will give them equal rights. What the President fails to acknowledge is that the government doesn’t give us our rights. They simply are our rights. We just want the government out of our way. Colorado is a swing state. Our electoral votes are critical to the success of our next President.”
