Marijuana legalization activists have taken one of their more surprising supporters, and slapped his face on a billboard.
As we've reported, Pat Robertson, the famed evangelical and conservative icon, has come out in favor of the legalization of marijuana. Not just medical marijuana, but full-on, "smoke 'em if you got 'em" legalization.
The billboard, which you can see if you drive all the way to Grand Junction, is urging voters to support Amendment 64, which would decriminalize ganja, placing it alongside other drugs, such as beer and cigarettes: taxable and regulated.
Voters will have chance to vote yea or nay this November.
From the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol's press release:
Statement from Betty Aldworth, advocacy director of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol:
"As a widely recognized conservative and evangelical leader, Mr. Robertson's endorsement is especially powerful. His support has made national headlines and inspired healthy public debate about the issue, and we would like to keep that debate going.
"Many people are familiar with Pat Robertson and appreciate his opinions. In this case, his opinion is that it makes absolutely no sense to allow adults to use alcohol, yet punish them for using marijuana. Mr. Robertson has also decried the massive amount of money wasted on arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning people for marijuana-related offenses. We hope folks will take this opinion into consideration as they cast their votes on Amendment 64 this November."
