'Barcade' opens, downtown food goes punk and more

Posted By on Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 5:48 PM

Like an amuse bouche, consider this a taste of things to come.

And by that, I mean, here's a quick snapshot of some news I'll elaborate on in next week's Side Dish column.

First up, Supernova is as of last night open in the former home of Burgers and Bowls and Taste of New Orleans at 111 E. Boulder St.

As such, 40 vintage arcade games now await your quarters and coordination, with hooch and bar eats to fuel the gaming fury. We'll tell you more about the menu Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, I'll update you on the progress of 2South Wine Bar, which recently named former Briarhurst Manor Estate chef Tyler Peoples as its head chef.

Oh — you need a third reason to tune in Wednesday? Fine. How 'bout a slick new spot called Whiskey Dick's at 26 E. Kiowa St., the former Conscious Table space?

It's operated by Brian Moore of Westside Tattoo and the neighboring V Bar, and it's the place for you if punk rock, PBR and liquor-infused barbecue sauces float your boat, even around 3 a.m.

Leaving behind my food column next week, here's a teaser I haven't gotten the full goods on yet: Apparently a happy relationship between the Leechpit and the Little Market.

Leechpit Little Market
  • Apparently, small, white square buildings attract one another. Or maybe it's punk rock and potica?

Lastly, go help Spice Island Grill celebrate its one-year anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 18. Think: drink specials, a bounce house, free food and live reggae music.
