SCAMP bike ride scheduled

Posted By on Sat, Sep 8, 2012 at 2:09 PM

Well, it's official, we're looking back on summer now.

The Summer Community Art and Mural Program, or SCAMP, has finished, leaving us with eight large public works of art in the central/downtown area. We covered this collaboration between the city of Colorado Springs and Concrete Couch back in August, when it had but one project left. (At the time, it was a mystery; it ended up being a beautification of the Arts Alley District downtown.) Now that it's all done, you can see the results of the months-long volunteer undertaking in a bicycle tour slated for 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22.

It's free, and you'll meet at the "Pikes Peak Avenue Sculpture Garden in the middle of the block (at the current median u-turn between Tejon and Nevada)" for a five-mile ride suitable for all riders. There will be bike racks and a bike valet on hand for parking.

It'll take place during the Better Block Pikes Peak event, a street event and block party of sorts to give the avenue, which, with its parking median fails to fully capitalize on the view of Pikes Peak, a "temporary, 24-hour intervention" to "demonstrate everyday life with a street designed primarily for pedestrians."
