Over the River still on hold

Posted By on Fri, Nov 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Last time we wrote about Over the River, the project was caught up in three court cases: two lawsuits and one administrative appeal.

Today, OTR Corp. sent out a release explaining that there's nothing new on that front: "At this point, there is nothing new to report — the three pending legal actions continue to work their way through the process."

The judges presiding over the two lawsuits have decided to wait until the administrative appeal — in which three individuals are challenging the Bureau of Land Management's Record of Decision through the Interior Board of Land Appeals — issues its ruling. On that, the OTR team says, "we hope and expect [it] will be issued soon."

There's no word yet on whether or not these cases will further affect the project. Christo has halted construction and the ordering of materials until the cases are sorted out, but is still working on other aspects, such as the bighorn sheep habitat enhancement program. The artist has also recently donated two original works of art (preparatory sketches) to "the citizens of the State of Colorado." The pieces were presented to Governor John Hickenlooper, who will hang them in his office, according to the press release. Soon after, they will travel to museums throughout the state.
