Better Block Pikes Peak has been widely covered in these pages, with ongoing updates here and here. But if you've missed it, it was a late October "intervention of the street for a 24-hour period to demonstrate everyday life on Pikes Peak Avenue with the street designed for the pedestrian, not their car," as put in a press release.

Up to this point, those involved — mainly landscape architect John Olson and Nick Kittle, the city of Colorado Springs' manager of administrative services and innovation — have called the project a success, with numbers on potential traffic disruption, and the like, to follow. Well, some of those are out on Colorado Springs Urban Intervention's blog, and they're all good.

"By transforming Pikes Peak Avenue to a street where all modes of transportation can still occur, with an increased emphasis toward the pedestrian," reads the conclusion, "vehicular traffic volumes increased and vehicular traffic velocities decreased." (Emphasis theirs.)

So, that's good.

Now, to the really good stuff: the time-lapse video. Admittedly, this is where I spent most of my time — mainly because I love seeing the sun rise and set over the city I was born in, but also because the thing is cool. Problem is, it lacks the one thing fundamental to a positive time-lapse experience: good music.

We took care of that. So pull up the time-lapse, and pull up Jurassic 5's "Swing Set." Click "play" on the song first, then full-screen the video, max it to 1080p (if you've got the Internet connection to do it), and you'll get a pretty well-timed bit of rocking downtown happenings.

Here are some quick hits to look for: the flash of downtown lights coming on at the 1:52 mark; a slow-down in Better Block-related action, and increase in block-party-goers, around 2:45; cops and fire trucks at 3:09; and the sunrise at 4:00.

Let me know if you've got better.
