The United States Postal Service just issued the following:
The spread of the Black Forest fire has impacted the mail delivery to more than 10,300 addresses for Friday, June 14.
The Elbert Post Office has been evacuated. All mail out ZIP 80106, including street and PO boxes is now being held at the Kiowa Post Office. The nearly 1,500 affected customers can pick up mail at the facility located at 708 Comanche St.
More than 2,700 addresses out of Monument, ZIP 80132 will not get delivery today. If you live East of Interstate 25 and south of State Highway 105, the mail will be held at the Monument Post Office and can be picked up at 543 3rd St.
Mail delivery to be suspended for nearly all of Colorado Springs, 80908 ZIP Code area, which is approximately 5,950 deliveries. The only section in the Black Forest receiving delivery is the general area between Woodman and Burgess, in the southeast corner.
The mail will be held at Briargate Station, 8585 Criterion Dr, and can be picked up at the side door in the lobby from 9:00 a.m. — 5:30 p.m. The phone number to the station is (719) 265-4409.
The Postal Service has temporarily closed the Black Forest Retail Postal Unit. All mail and services are being serviced out of the Briargate Station.
Approximately 240 addresses serviced by Peyton, ZIP 80831 in the Black Forest Falcon are impacted by road closures. Mail for affected addresses is available at the Peyton Post Office, 13055 Bradshaw Road.
Future delivery decisions will be made after consulting with local emergency managers.
