A retired Air Force major general will take on Republican U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn in the 2014 race in the 5th Congressional District.

Irv Halter, an Air Force Academy grad, will announce his candidacy at 10 a.m. Wednesday in America the Beautiful Park. He's lived in the Pikes Peak region since he retired from 32 years in the service in 2009.

Since then, he has served as vice president and general manager for Air Force and Missile Defense Agency programs with a large information technology company. He's a board member and former vice chair of the Military Affairs Committee of the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance.
