It's been confirmed today by the Gazette that Lester died of heart failure on the first day of the ride.

Over the weekend, William F. "Rick" Lester, the CEO of the Target Resource Group Arts, a nationwide arts and culture consulting firm, died while participating in the Courage Classic.
The report comes from the Denver Post, which writes that the cause of death hasn't been released. Lester was competing in the three-day, 157-mile bike ride that starts and ends at Copper Mountain Resort and raises money for Children's Hospital Colorado.
A service will be held Monday, July 29 at First Congregational Church.
