Art at the Mining Exchange goes local

Posted By on Mon, Aug 26, 2013 at 3:31 PM

From the listings desk: This Friday offers a chance to see brand-new artwork by locals Phil Lear and Jeff Cloutier, who are the two main artists whose works now hang in the Mining Exchange, A Wyndham Grand Hotel. All summer, the two have prepared paintings and photography, respectively, for the hotel.

The pieces span local landmarks (including the hotel itself), scenes from local history — both the mining and the electrical (Lear has a large-scale Tesla piece underway) — and works that evoke the Jazz Age, a tribute to the hotel restaurant, Springs Orleans.

Most of the art will be for sale, and doesn't stop at the lobby. Marcea Flowers, who has curated the works as an independent contractor for the Mining Exchange, has hung pieces throughout building hallways and even in the restrooms.

Click here for details on the reception, and look out for the Indy's upcoming Fall Arts Preview for more on the Lear, Cloutier and the arts coming to the Mining Exchange.
