• Check it out: WildFire Tees
has introduced a flood T-shirt just today to raise money for statewide emergency relief. It was designed by Austin Buck
of CoPilot Creative
. "Buy a tee, give a 'life preserver' to those who need it," the verbiage for the shirt reads.
As always, shirts are $20 and can be ordered online
• Elsewhere, He.A.R.T. of Colorado
— an organization that seeks to help rehabilitate community members and victims of our recent natural disasters with seminars and art events (hence the acronym "Healing Artists Responding to Trauma") —
has launched a contest asking artists to create a "heartfelt, healing masterpiece that you believe might inspire hope, promote healing, and/or reflects the community's tremendous support in response to recent fires."
Works will be judged by a panel of Waldo Canyon and Black Forest Fire survivors on Oct. 5. After that, the originals will be auctioned off (and prints made for sale) at He.A.R.T.'s Fox Trot 5K and Art Expo
in Fox Run Park
that same day. Proceeds from the auction and sales of the prints will go toward the completion of a "fire memorial healing mural" commissioned by the 12 Mural Project
as well as the formation of a He.A.R.T. team "that integrates fine arts and professional trauma therapists to help people bounce back from traumatic events and disasters in our region immediately and in the future."
for contest details or call 659-6228 with questions; all works are due by Sept. 27.
• Meanwhile, here are some things you can do to help Manitou Springs, assuming, of course, you can actually get into the town.
Happening next weekend, it'll host a town-wide block party in conjunction with its usual Third Friday ArtWalk
. According to Bianca Codiga
of Mountain Living Studio
, it will begin on 5 p.m. Friday and end 5 p.m. that Saturday, and will include food and drink specials at the restaurants, artist demonstrations at galleries, along with opening receptions and more. The Manitou Mud Jam
, taking place at Venue 515
at 4 p.m. Sept. 21 will host: David Woje
, Floaty Raft
, Jason Bennett
, The Dogwater Band
, Ryan Flores
to raise money for businesses affected by the flooding. Admission is by donation.
Details for the block party are still in the works, so check back for more information.
