Flooding moves PPUG Garlic Fest to Summerland Gardens

Posted By on Tue, Sep 17, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Due to severe flooding at Harlan Wolfe Ranch, Pikes Peak Urban Gardens has moved this upcoming Saturday's Garlic Fest to Summerland Gardens.

All other PPUG fundraiser details remain the same, including the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. hours, $10 entree (with requested RSVP), vendors' market, salsa contest and chef's competition.

There is limited parking on site, but some spaces in the southern back part of the Safeway across the street, and in the surrounding neighborhood. A shuttle will run to and from Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School (one mile west at 1200 W. Cheyenne Road) during the event.

I will once again be judging the chef's competition — this year with co-judges Dave Brackett of TAPAteria and Pizzeria Rustica and Greg Howard of McCabe's.

Chef Kevin Campbell of Full Circle Cuisine returns to defend his victory last year, and chef Nate Dirnberger of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is back to take another friendly shot at Campbell. Meanwhile, PPUG has added a third chef to the mix for 2013: chef David McDonough of (also flood-battered) Adam's Mountain Café

All the chefs are able to use whatever they wish, harvested that morning from Harlan Wolfe Gardens (not all crops were harmed by the flooding). And each will be presented with a mystery basket of ingredients they must build the dish around.

Come watch the fun. We promise you'll go home with stinky breath — that is, if you eat the free garlic ice cream.
