Seize the meat at Carne Diem

We're talking chili, which means we're probably talking beef, so go put on Aaron Copland's "Hoedown" and then we'll continue. Go on, I can wait ...

Alright, now that we're in the proper spirit, here's the deal: VI Marketing and Branding is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its Colorado Springs location, but doing it in a way that does more than pat the company on the back.

At 11:30 a.m. this Thursday, Oct. 3, Carne Diem — a chili cook-off "where heat meets meat," we're told — will kick-off on the west lawn of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. Tickets are $10, and get you three bowls of chili, a drink and two votes for your favorite. The first 100 people will also receive a logo mug and, for the best part, all proceeds benefit the Raise the Barn project at Venetucci Farm, as well as the museum.

"Coddle yourself with limitless ladlefuls from both amateur and professional chili–concocting contestants," reads a witty bit of copy. "With lip-smacking flavors and nostril-flaring aromas, these creations will leave you lusting for leftovers.

"Be there. Or be somewhere else, doing whatever it is you do when you’re not gluttonizing gobs of bubbling beef bliss at a charitable chili chug-a-thon." (Gross.)

Anyway, it looks like the Gazette's Teresa Farney and Katie Carrol, as well as myself and my co-writer Matthew Schniper, will be judging the shindig, so if you can't make it, I guess we'll let you know how it goes.
