UPDATE: Manitou Brewing progresses, a celebrity chef arrives and more food news

It is not chef Justin Warner who will appear at Wildwood Casino in Cripple Creek, but chef Justin Werner (with an "e").

And now for another loaded look ahead in the world of local food and drink:

• It's that time to help Catholic Charities of Central Colorado and the Marian House stock up for the holidays on turkey donations. Here's what you need to know to help out: Turkeys_needed_2013_-_.pdf

• We last updated you in late September on the progress of Manitou Brewing Co., where leaders really hope to be up and running by year's end. Co-managing partner Robert Ugianskis said in an email earlier today that "Construction is moving along, tanks moved in yesterday." And you can watch the process below:



• For a chance to bump into celebrity chef Justin Warner — winner of the eighth season of Food Network Star — take part in or go to observe Cripple Creek's Wildwood Casino inaugural Culinary Challenge on Saturday, Nov. 16, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. 

If you're gonna enter an app, entrée or dessert, that entry will be due by Saturday, Nov. 9. You must be 21, not a food professional, and most limiting, you must be a registered Miner's Club cardholder at the casino. If you care to get registered to compete, you can win several hundred dollars in the contest. 

Also, winning dishes will be featured on the casino's holiday menu. Five percent of the proceeds from sales of those dishes will go to Care and Share Food Bank

Tucanos Brazilian Grill will give away free churrasco meals on Veterans Day to "all active duty, reserve and retired military and veterans." Also, those same folks can receive 10 percent off their entire bill between Friday, Nov. 8 and Monday, Nov. 11 leading up to the holiday.  

• We'll have more details for you soon on Manitou's Local First Grocer, most likely in my Side Dish column. But to learn more about it on your own, attend Transition Manitou Springs' meeting at Marika's Coffeehouse on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m.

The Villa Palmer Lake recently announced a new menu that includes several throwbacks to the owners' former B&E Filling Station menu. From a press release:
In the coming months, you will see a transition away from a core traditional Italian format to something that brings together the stylish food of B & E days with Italian and other culinary styles as The Villa moves forward to coming into its own. This will soon include a new logo and some redecorating inside to reflect this evolution. 

Miller Farms wants it to be known that it's now taking 2014 CSA applications. 

The French Kitchen is now booking its popular crêpes classes out into January. Visit the site for details on other offerings, including a culinary trip to France in May.  

The Colorado Brewers Guild is holding its Thanksgiving Rendezvous at Denver's Stapleton Tap House on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets, $40, will get you samplings from around 20 outfits.
