Listen: If a handful of B-level celebrities can't get Gov. John Hickenlooper
to support bans on fracking within Colorado, then what hope does anybody else have?
That's why supporters of the ban will have to hope that Hayden Panettiere
, Wilmer Valderrama
and that woman
from Modern Family
— or, more importantly, Happy Gilmore
— can sway the mind of a governor who once said
it was "morally reckless" not to "embrace" natural gas and, assumedly, all that comes with its collection.
Produced by a coalition that includes the groups Environmental Media Association
and Frack Free Colorado
, the videos target Hickenlooper, governors in California and New York and President Obama.
“It’s time for Governor Hickenlooper to stop drinking the fracking fluid and side with the people of Colorado,” says Sam Schabacker
, with Food & Water Watch, in a news release. “As a governor up for reelection next year, it would probably be wise for him to stop antagonizing his base and pay closer attention to their concerns over fracking.
"Just like the water used for fracking is forever contaminated, those of us fighting to protect our air, water and communities from fracking are not going away.”
And since a new poll
shows that 49 percent of respondents think an up-for-reelection Hick doesn't deserve it, the issue should remain interesting as well.
