You'll have to eat your fruitcake this year because you can't launch it in Manitou Springs' storied, annual Great Fruitcake Toss: It's been canceled.

A call into the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce confirmed it this morning. Why? Unpredictable weather, dwindling crowds (worsened by recent natural disasters) and its move up to the high school.

Usually scheduled for the first weekend or two in January, the Fruitcake Toss has gotten tons of national (and international!) attention. Competitors build their own pneumatic or mechanical devices to propel this reviled dessert thousands of feet into the distance. There's also a competition for people to hurl the cakes by hand, says RoadsideAmericana.com.

2014 would have been the toss' 19th year, but maybe again in 2015, a Chamber spokesperson says.
