Another year, another wave of festival announcements. And once again, Coachella is first out of the gate with today’s announcement of its 2014 lineup, headlined by OutKast, Muse, and Arcade Fire.

While Arcade Fire and Muse are rapidly slipping into the “how can we miss you if you won’t go away” category, OutKast has been sufficiently dormant since its “Hey Ya” heyday to take on event status.

Other 2014 booking coups include Pharrell Williams, Lorde, the Head and the Heart, the Knife, and Skrillex. Those with more seasoned tastes can sample the Replacements (well, two of them anyway), Bryan Ferry, Beck, Bad Manners, Motorhead, Pet Shop Boys, Queens of the Stone Age and Neutral Milk Hotel. ‘90s Britpop fans, if there are any out there, can get excited about Oasis singer Liam Gallagher’s band Beady Eye.

As is often the case, many of the most interesting artists can be found in the small print: Chance the Rapper, Holy Ghost!, Bombay Bicycle club, Cage the Elephant, Chvrches, Mogwai, Aloe Blacc… to name just a handful.

Since its 1999 debut, Coachella has been the undisputed leader among inland Southern California polo field music festivals. Find more information on this year’s event, which runs from April 11-13, at

No word, by the way, on a successor to that Tupac hologram.
