Coquette's and Alice's open today

Posted By on Tue, Apr 1, 2014 at 11:51 AM

As of this morning, downtown diners have two more options for eats and drinks in the form of Coquette's Bistro & Bakery and Alice’s: Food. Art. Coffee. at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.

As we'll elaborate on in tomorrow's Side Dish column, Alice's replaces the former gift shop space near the main entryway and is under the care of Summit Catering. (To clarify: The FAC manages Alice's, while Summit provides the food.) Café 36 and the Deco Lounge remain open for private events and pre-theater dining still, but regular lunch service out of Café 36 has ceased for now, while future plans call for it to go active again down the road.

"You're gonna see some major stepping up in a lot of areas at the FAC," says communications director Warren Epstein, speaking to those future plans that factor as far out as 2015's calendar. Another gift shop presence of some sort is also called for, but Epstein is more referring to the FAC's show programming, which includes Chihuly Rediscovered, May 3 through Sept. 28.

Though it's certainly news to this writer that Chihuly's popular work has been lost to public perception in recent years (OK, it's just a show title) and it feels a bit like the FAC is seeking to relive the glory years of 2005 to 2007 — during which then director Michael DeMarsche lured upwards of 80,000 people to the FAC for Chihuly at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, ushering in a new era of awesomeness and a $28 million expansion — the ambitious talk certainly excites, and doesn't stop there.

"We’re poised for really big things here that you haven’t seen before,” Epstein adds. "It's been a while since we've brought in a blockbuster."

But I digress ... back to Alice's: Barista Espresso's drip coffees (a Kona, Sumatra and decaf option) will be served in light of no espresso machine on site. And here's the cafe's menu:  Menu.pdf

Now, onto Coquette's

We don't have any major update for you here, other than to say it is finally open downtown in the former Curry Leaf spot, a little past its initial projected launch date — no surprise, as that's typical for almost every project.

Recall that the gluten-free mecca will have a full liquor license, a patio opening very soon, a retail market and expanded dining menu.

We haven't yet been by, but here's a teaser pic of construction-in-progress that Coquette shared on its Facebook page on March 25:
