Earlier this month, the I.D.E.A. Space
at Colorado College announced a fall art show
devoted to works inspired by the life and studies of Nikola Tesla
In addition to that, 35 etchings done by Rembrandt
— yeah, that
guy — will go on display at the gallery in October. Rembrandt: Beyond the Brush
will feature self-portraits, landscapes, Biblical stories and scenes of everyday Dutch life, all hailing from the permanent collection of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
of this type are notable. The institution houses aquatints from Goya
, lithographs from Whistler
, and works from Mantegna
The show opens Oct. 27, with an Oct. 30 opening reception with a presentation by CC associate professor Rebecca Tucker
. It will remain up through Dec. 13.
Across the road, the Coburn Gallery
will host a solo show from CC assistant professor of art Emma Powell
. Powell may not be immediately recognizable, name-wise, but her artwork is stunning. Her new series, In Search of Sleep
, is a dreamy array of toned cyanotypes that at some points look like photography, and at others, like a soft painting.
You'll find symbolism, and a touch of Francesca Woodman
in Powell's work. But there's more fantasy here, and direct approaches to her subject matter, e.g. in In Search of Sleep
, there's a woman clutching a key behind her back, another peering up a sharp staircase, a strange shadow cast on the wall beside her.
The exhibit opens Nov. 24 with a reception and artist talk, and will stay up through Dec. 18.
