The latest climate survey of Colorado Springs Utilities
workers gives the city-owned operation a pretty good overall score. But there are problems here and there.
Such as, this finding regarding the internal culture of honoring and respecting one another's work:
Written themes inferring that respondents feel managers' own behaviors do not support the Culture of Honor. Comments indicate that inadequate levels of leadership training, a lack of trust and a failure to recognize work well done all combine to discourage rank and file employees. Clearly more work is needed in these areas.
The survey consultant concluded that Utilities did pretty well, noting that overall the agency achieved a 3.93 rating, only slightly below the 4.0 mean. Consultants called that a "strong, respectable rating."
Utilities spokesman Steve Berry
says via email that the survey cost about $36,000. The last survey was given in 2010 but the next one will be done in 2016.
"An Employee Action Team has been leading the effort, and will continue to lead the effort on creating action plans to improve in areas identifyed in the survey and capitalize on strengths. The employee-led effort will continue until we do another survey in a couple of years," he says.
