Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson with a crime, a group of Colorado College students is protesting the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
At noon, the Kneel Down for Michael Brown
protest will commence, with protesters aiming to block off Cascade Avenue. Organizer Spencer Spotts, a 19-year-old sophomore studying sociology and gender studies, says he's expecting over 130 people, with more students, staff and public to come.
"I'd say the reason we're doing this is after last night's verdict, we feel we still need to show our campus and our community we will not stand for racial inequality in the U.S., and it's time to take even more action," Spotts says. "Something as peaceful as a kneeling-down protest can have a huge impact."
Those interested should meet at the middle crosswalk on Cascade Avenue on CC's campus. Later, at 5 p.m., a discussion will take place at the Worner Campus Center, with a candlelight vigil to follow.
