After 10 years working in the nonprofit sector, she made a career change and landed at the Independent in 2006. As associate editor, Kirsten 1) reads every bit of editorial text — often two or three times — before it reaches the readers each week; 2) writes stories, dabbling primarily in arts and entertainment topics, and pumping out a cover story a few times a year; and 3) oversees the paper's internship program, nurturing along college students as they learn the ropes of the business.more
