While watching one of those made-for-SyFy nature-gone-amok mash-ups, many things go through your mind. But most of all: Is it this bad on purpose? Is this meant to be ironic? Or are they really trying to create something here?
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: God bless Apprehensive Films. While most other reissue and re-release companies are trying to get the trashiest of films remastered and thrown on Blu-ray with many bells and whistles, Apprehensive quickly lets you know that these films don’t really deserve it.
In the ’70s, television networks would go out of their way to make made-for-TVs that could actually run neck-and-neck with bigger-budget theatrical outings. They even shot on film and used real locations and big-name stars of the day.
Typical zombie tropes have shifted from bloody immediate survival stories to tales exploring the long-term lasting effects on those that have survived in the aftermath. Maybe that has to do with the current nihilistic mind-frame of our society?
