Traditional Irish Session

Sometimes, along with hopeful resolutions, a new year can inspire new traditions — some better than meatloaf Mondays. If you've never checked out the traditional Irish Session that's gone on now for 10-plus years at Jack Quinn Irish Alehouse & Pub (21 S. Tejon St., 385-0766), you might consider it today from 3 to 6 p.m. Most all the classic Irish instruments make an appearance, including fiddles, the concertina, uilleann pipes and the bodhrán (traditionally a goatskin frame drum). Having caught a couple of Trad sessions myself while travelling in Ireland, I can say it's a mighty fine accompaniment to a beer. — Matthew Schniper
