Best Of 2010: Bar for a Martini
Best Of 2010: Bar for a Fancy-Pants Cocktail
Best Of 2010: Upscale Bar
At the beginning of August, the blue porch light at 15C went dark, the result of an early-morning fire in the building that displaced the martini and cigar bar's customers and staff. Regardless, Springs drinkers and smokers know what they like — this is 15C's eighth win for Upscale (or Classy) Bar and ninth win for Bar for a Martini. And as martinis can be a little "fancy-pants," it's really no surprise 15C grabbed that first-year award, too. From the ashes: "I'm definitely reopening — there's no question of that," says owner Alan Pak, though he doesn't have a timeline yet. —Kirsten Akens

You can drink, you can smoke, and you can stare across a candle-lit table at your loved one. Or you can just drink and smoke. A multiple readers' poll winner in the Bar for a Martini and Upscale Bar categories (its seventh straight year in the latter), 15C is a den of hidden delights located down a back alley with a purple light next to an indistinguishable door. In addition to the cigar menu, martinis rule here, from the classic James Bond affectation to such trendy concoctions as the Sugar Daddy, French Kiss and Velvet Hammer.

While free UFC fights are a draw for some, those with strictly culinary bloodlust will want the duck wings with jerk seasoning, "spicy balls" (yes, testicles), gator nuggets, the Fully Loaded wood-oven pizza, or excellent brats courtesy of Denver's Continental Sausage.

Bites 2013: Moscato and Ginger Mousse
This dessert is hella sexy, but in a refined, classy way — like an attractive person at the Broadmoor's swimming pool. It's light and airy, with a ginger simple syrup adding a pleasantly biting zing to the creaminess. Then comes a garnish of salted peanut praline for caramelized contrast and a side of Moscato-ginger honey infused with both lemon and vanilla ... so many lovely flavors hitting in harmony. Genius. Pure genius. ($6)

This is the only hookah business with two locations in the Pikes Peak region. At the Academy location, you'll find hookah smoking, of course, but also a retail shop, a 40/40 cigar room with an eight-foot humidor, pool tables, arcade games, karaoke, DJs and even belly dance classes and "fetish nights." The Widefield location boasts pool tables and multiple TVs for gaming while you enjoy smoking the store's signature blends.

The Mariner hosts a variety of musical acts, but the every-other-Sunday acid jazz jam remains the must-hear attraction. Led by Kim Stone — the former Spyro Gyra and the Rippingtons bassist whose current band, A New Brain for Arnie, released an impressive debut album last November — the improvisational musicianship can get positively transcendent.

Best of 2012: Neighborhood Bar: North
Back in July, we called Back East one of the best bars in the city, writing, "For a spot sporting a clean sheen commensurate with its Briargate-shopping-center location, there's an organic 'home away from home' vibe." Readers obviously agree, anointing Buffalo native Mike Davis' bar the best in the north, just like last year. And why not? The wings are like meat candy, all spice and sweetness; there are 12 beers on tap, and another 20 or so in bottles; and every weekend, during the season, the family-friendly spot carries every NFL game. — Bryce Crawford
