As we assembled this edition of the Independent's Education Guide, we tried to heed the advice of our own fondly remembered language arts teachers. We focused small, paid attention to detail, and insisted on primary sources for information.
This issue tackles Pre-K-12 schools only. (In the spring, we'll do another one that covers options for higher and continuing education.) We hope the new facts and features will help prospective students and their parents make informed choices, whether leaning toward public, private, homeschool or one of the many options occupying the space between.
A caveat: Even with twice the space of previous Ed Guides, we couldn't mention every institution and resource by name. Also, persuading some local administrators to brag about their school was as protracted and sensitive a process as a root canal.
However, there were just as many gracious respondents, and what they had to say helps paint a picture of a dynamic educational community in the Pikes Peak region. So from ADD to ESL, whatever kind of student you are, there's something in this Ed Guide for you.
