Greetins cretins, welcome to another fist-pounding installment of Reverb. Let's get straight down to business, shall we?
Another Shade of Hate has announced that, after cranking out more than three years of spine-shattering thrash/metal madness, it will be playing its final two shows "for a long, long time" this weekend.
The first is an all-ages shindig Friday, Nov. 21, at the Black Sheep with special guest performances by regional hard rock/heavy metal face-moshers In Elements, the Hayman Fire, Spoken in Fire and Seven Year Coma. The very next evening, the band will give its final performance for an undisclosed amount of time (perhaps forever!?) at ye olde Union Station, still mourning the recent loss of former owner George Harrison (the one and only, although not that one and only). R.I.P.
On Friday, Union Station will play host to an "18-and-up only" bash-o-rama that's being billed as "Goth/Industrial vs. Metal" and features the evil musical stylings of Khrinj, Try Redemption, MOC, Frozen Eternity, Kaptive, Kastigation, Vital Malice and Spilled Innocence. Now, if that weren't enough to warm your cold, bitter, gothic/industrial heart, thanks to the hard work of the fine folks at CABO (Colorado Artists and Bands Organize), all admission fees, raffle proceeds and even 20 percent of bar sales from this badass jamboree are going to the Springs Rescue Mission. It's like guitar god Johnny Thunders always said (before he died under mysterious circumstances in Room 37 of the St. Peter House hotel in New Orleans): "Help the homeless, we all need a place to stay / Help the homeless, we all need a place to live." As for the battle between goth and metal ... there is only one way to find out the winner ... Go to the show!
At the Rocket Room, however, evil never dies, and metal always wins. For proof, look no further than the massively atrocious lineup for this Friday evening's revelries. In addition to the usual suspect, namely Colorado Springs' greatest bearded, Hessian riff-smiths, Smaug, this show will drag down a couple of Denver's finest: garage/punk-spewers Burn Sand Burn and Workhorse, which was nominated for "Best Doom Metal Band" at the 2008 Westword Music Showcase and describes itself as a "three-way love child between Mastodon, Pantera and John Lee Hooker ..." Hmmm ... I wonder who's on top? I, for one, would not want to watch that particular act of lovemaking, but I'll be damned if it doesn't sound like a hell of a good time!
And I suppose, while I am spouting off on all this local heavy metal action, I might as well plug the big national metal show tonight (Thursday, Nov. 20) at the Black Sheep with Job for a Cowboy, Hate Eternal, All Shall Perish, Animosity and Annotations for an Autopsy. Giddy up, go, Daddy. Giddy up, go!
Lastly, thanks to everyone who came out to see Adam Stone, the Reminders, Thee Kissing Disease and the Haunted Windchimes totally rock out for my wife's birthday party last weekend, except whoever stole her camera and cell phone. No thanks to you, jerk! Everyone else ... you rock!
