Re: “Bill Maher

A great performance. 2nd to last row of orchestra section, dead center. Good stage visibility except when the guy seated in front of me with a ball cap on turned toward his companion and obscured my view. Bill Maher is not afraid of offending anyone, and I sensed a little flinching among the group to my left during the religious part of his act, but he is an intellectually astute comedian and those who bought tickets had to know what kind of show they were in for.

Re: “In the Mood

Big band fans: come over to The Thirsty Parrot before the show for dinner and some fine warm up music from Springs Contemporary Big Band. We'll get you ready for this great show.

Re: “"Rediscover the Prairie: A Journey through North America's Imperiled Grasslands"

Re: “Give Peas a Chance! Drive

Wanted them to print up my own sticker, "Men will be starv'in when robots read Darwin". But they don't do anything original. Thought original work was the forte of liberals.

Re: “Indy Music Awards

So much fun. Bands were excellent. Great choices, voters did it right. Will definitely attend next year. Met the singer of Malakai and got a fist bump. Purchased a CD by Grant Sabin. (gotta love songs about tarot cards and Tibetan 3-legged frogs..

Re: “Beauty and the Beast

Great show, Beast was awesome; set changes were very creative, Nancy Holiday did a great job adapting this play to her actors. Costumes were very well designed.

Re: “The BoDeans

Great show. Kurt is a gifted musician but it's not the same without Sam. The Bodeans will never be the the real Bodeans without him.

Re: “Romeo and Juliet

Gay E. Menditto - SO much to love about this production, I don't know where to begin. The costumes, the theme, the portrayals, the amazing fight scenes, fun swing dancing, beautiful music, etc. etc. I loved that even though I have memorized this play and love it, I did not know what to expect next. Great job!!! ~ Tin Roof.

Re: “Pete Earley — Crazy: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness

A wonderful collaboration by NAMI, AspenPointe, CC, and the Independent to bring the issues of mental health into the community dialog.

Re: “Jeffrey Alan Band

Saw the Jeffrey Alan Band at the Mill Hill Saloon on Sat nite Oct 22. Had a really great time listening to them. I would go see them again wherever they are playing, and bring some friends to enjoy them as well.

Re: “Watts Up

Always a great place to have a drink, and a good time. Yes, they have changed the chili, not as good as it used to be.

Re: “Kiss and Tell, Acrach Attack

This is going to be a great show. Fire Aweigh, a new punk rock band is also on the bill. Rocket Room is a great venue, walking distance from The triple nickel. Same great shared clientele. If you're looking for new blood in town, it will be here.

Re: “Carnivale! Manitou's 18th annual Mardi Gras Parade and Celebration

I was there all day, had a great time! Tons of people turned out for this and I'm so glad I went. I lived in Manitou every summer of the late 60's and early 70's and this helped to enhance the nostalgic journey I had planned for this weekend. Especially the true hippies that have stayed all these years and never left. Wish I had done that........

Re: “Marty Wayne "Magical Entertainment You Can Sink Your Teeth Into!"

Our daughter was in a volley ball game in Canon City. We stopped after to eat at Pizza Madness. Not only was the food great but the magician, (Marty) they had there was just wonderful. This guy is not a kid magician. He entertained the adults as well. This guy could be in Vegas. We will definitely go back. Good food and great entertainment.

Re: “Mile High Music Festival, feat. Tool, The Fray, Widespread Panic

Overall the festival was very enjoyable. The only thing keeping from giving this festival a 5 star-rating was, the disappointing performance by Tool. Being a huge fan, I was sorely disappointed by the muddy sound quality and nearly absent vocals. Something was not right with the mixing and it showed. Most of their songs came across instrumental because it was nearly impossible to hear Maynard. Another sore dissapointment was when Tool left out many of their hits and left the stage nearly a half an hour early. The visuals were awesome, but unfortunately the audio was not. Tool receives a B- from me. (This could be the fault of a hardware failure that caused such poor mixing, but none the less it was not ever fixed.)

Other bands, though, provided very solid "A" performances, Incubus and Galactic being two of them.

All in all, the very best performance was by Davy Knowles. His music and guitar playing was absolutely stunning, easily proving himself as the most talented musician there. Next time, perhaps Tool should be given the smaller time slot and Davy Knowles should headline.

Re: “Carmen Emborski

really fun and quirky vocal stylings - a nice new take on the standard jazz repertoire, some originals and folk too!
