Absolutely great mexican food!! Try Combo #5 with verde sauce to get a taste of everything. They also have the best dessert i've ever had, a cheesecake chimichanga with cinnamon and honey. The sopapillas are awesome as well. When ever friends come to town this is the restaurant we go to.
This place is very good!!
Good overflowing chips & salsa, good appitizers and good drinks if you are in a snacky, chatty mood w/friends. Stop there.
The mexican-esque food that is put together in a very fast food way is very expensive, very poor quality and very non-authentic.
To start the table off, a platter of soft and hard shelled tacos came out cold. Cold shells and cold insides. Followed by super-hot (microwaved?) plates of Burritios, Chimichangas and Enchilidas made 'on the fly' (E.g. slap contents into a shell, wrap, cover with sauce and cheese, deep fry or microwave).
For the sides, very small portions of seemingly canned, generic rice and beans.
The bill was outrageous and insulting for food and portions that were no better and in a few cases way worse than the corner El-Mexicano, Taco trucks or Taco Johns.
Food and margs were excellent
Waitstaff very attentive with great recommendations
Can't wait to go back
This is the first of the 3 Margaritas. There food is always great. The meats and seafoods are fresh as well as the veggies. The staff is very friendly and always have wonderful suggestions.
Bland, small portions. Didn't feel real great when I left. Fought "indigestion" for hours. Poor service and less than mediocre food. Won't go back.
We've been enjoying Jose's since 1976; the ambiance has changed over the years to more of a family atmosphere lately, but the food is consistently excellent. Love the margaritas and chili rellenos, especially. Usually good service; every once in awhile we go for long periods without finding our server, but we usually get good coverage. The patio is awesome.
Used to be good. New management has changed the recipes to something extremely bland. Salsa and margaritas are not the same, either. Poor service. Probably won't go back :(
Awesome food and the best horchata I have ever had!
The owner is extremely friendly. They have relocated and are having a grand re-opening this weeked 9/29/2011-10/2/2011. Their new location is 4737 N. Academy near the Flintridge and Academy intersection.
Last time I was there, a server dropped napkins on the floor, picked them up from the floor and wrapped them around silverware intended for customers. I mentioned this was a health code violation; his response was, "Oh?" like it had never occurred to him; he then unwrapped them, discarded the napkins that had been on the floor BUT NOT THE SILVERWARE THAT HAD NOW TOUCHED THEM, and proceeded to wrap new napkins around them. I'll never eat there again.
By far, our favorite restaurant, Mexican or otherwise. The Woodland Park restaurant certainly qualifies in the "Hole in the Wall" category, but there is nothing second rate about the food or the service. We went there on the strong recommendation of our friends and we pass that same recommendation on to others.
Real ceviche so good so frech and i dont work there or know anybody!!
Don't waste your time or money if you expect good service, you won't find it here!! The waitresses act like even the simplest of request is a bother. We won't be back, there are too many good Mexican food restaurants in the area!!
Call me suspicious, but do you think some or all of these comments were written by the people who either own or work at this place?
Best Mex downtown if not citywide. Simple as that.
never had to wait no 40 minutes for an order ever....even when the place is packed...which is all the time
love...love ...love this place
I love this place!!! The food is fresh, with true mexican flare!! The people that work there want nothing more but for you to enjoy your food and expierence there. I would truly reccomend Amanda's Fonda to anyone looking for a great meal, great time, and a full stomach...
Not sure if they are competent. First they ran out of shrimp. They took our orders and came back to the table 40 minutes after we ordered and told us they ran out of chicken, so members of our party had to reorder. Served another party member a frozen margarita and forgot to put in the alcohol. Very very slow. Do you guys know what you are doing?
Love the "venue". Great decor and setting. The chips were thin, crisp and tasty but the salsa could use a little more flavor and heat - it had a very tomatoey taste. Loved the basmati/saffron style rice - a good mix with the mexican food. Beans were tasty but could use a little jalapeno or green chili. I had the enchildas with a type of "Alfredo" sauce - very rich and yummy. I definately would go again and again! I'm so glad this place opened! The hostess and wait staff were awesome!
