I've had friends from Chicago say they haven't been able to find anywhere else in Colorado that serves up real food like this. I personally have been cutting back severely on my meat intake, but that all goes out the window when I eat at La Perla Tapatia. I dare you to find a better Carnitas in town, and the green chili is original and amazing. Oh, and the Mexican Hot Dog is to die for, and I don't even eat hot dogs.
Lately, it seems dirty with mediocre food.
I don't know what Deirdre had but 4 bites in, my stomach was in pain.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM This is yummy Mexican fair with Great service and yummmmmmmy margaritas!
good food, the wait can be loooooong sometimes...
a great value for your buck with healthy meats and local vegies, good stuff!
My husband brought home takeout for the family from El Poblano last night. It was delicious. This is not standard "Mexican" food. The flags flying were from Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexico. Judging only from the food we ate, I don't think Mexico has the primary influence.
Unfortunately I can't tell you the names of most of our dishes, because he just ordered a few random things and there wasn't a copy of the menu to bring home :( But I can tell you that none of the items were food that you'd get at another local Mexican eatery.
One item was Papusas, which are Salvadoran. They are delicious and definitely not health food.
We'll go back!
The best mexican food in Colorado Springs?!? These commentors are stretching the truth, or truly have no clue. Poblano's, in the pink bus on Chelton and Platte blows this place away. Hit the taco triangle in south central CSprings if you want authentic.
Love the FOOD,Staff, and the people that play at the Dart tournaments(GREAT FUN ) on Mondays and Thursdays and also NFL games that play on Sunday, Monday at
Poblano's Family Mexican Restaurant
Since I'm a New Mexican, I grew up with green chili in my blood. El Rey feeds my addiction perfectly now that I live here. And the lemonade is fabulous, too.
Amazing seafood and fish dishes, considering the price and that this is CS. Service is always excellent, quick refills on the excellent chips and salsa. Ambience is a bit quirky - a bright family restaurant coupled with a dark, mellow bar, but I go for the food (especially pork carnitas and ceviche tostada) and staff. If you're looking for good "American-Mexican", ie burrito, taco, enchilada on one plate, you're missing the point of this place.
Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. The tacos al pastor are the best that I've had in this city and the chef's torta ahogada is a pile of carnitas on a soft baguette drowned in a fiery tomato sauce. The chef & owner, Sergio, is very personable and justifiably proud of his food.
It's all so good I've eaten there twice in as many days with plans to go again this week!
I love their Veggie Taco salad. They give you enough to fill you and it's very healthy. Having it on the outdoor area is a plus!
I only order two things: the chimichanga or the topolobampo (sp.?) Both are great!
The only thing good about this place is Taco Tuesday and happy hour. The Margarita's aren't that great either especially after having a Tivo from Jorge's.
My husband and I went to Poblanos tonight to "give them another chance". When Poblanos first open we thought "great, a Mexican resturant close by". Their food was alright, but each time we have visited since the portions have been less and less. Tonight my husband ordered the fajita salad and after a few bites and after moving the few vegetables around asked the waitress where the meat was. She insulted him by bringing a small plate with a couple of tiny slices of skirt steak. He told her to forget it and handed her his entire plate and stated he was unsatisfied with the meal and did not want it. The manager then actually returned the plate to my husband and shoved it under his face and said he had already eaten most of the meal, which made our point exactly...my husband had only taken a few bites. My husband told the manager he did not want to argue with him, but the manager kept carrying on. My husband left the resturant and I told the manager to get me the bill that I would pay for both meals and then the manager proceded to argue with me. I could not believe it! I have never experienced anything like that and we dine out regularly. What happened to the customer always being right. I cannot imagine Poblanos being in business much longer. Lousy food ... Lousy service.
Was out here for a family event and a group of us went before the rush of people. Never got a chance to try the patio or the food because we were told that they couldnt serve us due to a shortage of servers and our group was too large. So we left a little angry and never went back.
Bland, Bland, and bland. Looks like if you pay the indy they will give you a best of award. This is now the fifth restaruant we have tried that received the so called best of and they all fell very short.
Totally delicious. Be sure to get the green papaya salad on your taco/burrito/bowl. They make their flour tortillas fresh. The braised pork is outstanding, as is the corn salsa. They make their own guacamole - none of that neon green paste that tries to pass.
Re: “La Carreta Mexican Restaurant”
Great Mexican Food ever.
