Re: “Fujiyama

If sushi is your thing and you want to wear yo bling, this is the place to see and be seen for the best of oriental dining! The sushi bar is extravagant, delicious, hospitable and friendly. Desert for me, last visit, was soft shell crab in some crazy magic sweet sauce! YUM Be there or be totally sushi dish square.

Re: “Jun Japanese Restaurant - Dublin

The Centennial location has always had careless wait staff...but now the sushi preparation is careless too. I think they just run up to Kingsoopers to fill orders these days. I just actually threw up my dinner from tonight...no more chances for this hole.

Re: “Jun Japanese Restaurant - Centennial

Jun distributes the Indy but doesn't read it...gave it another try this week and although the sushi was perfect, the waitresses are entitled brats who ought to all be fired...best just do carry out and limit your exposure to the wait girls.

Re: “Jun Japanese Restaurant - Centennial

I love the sushi at Jun's, but as the reviews over on the Gasette say, the wait staff is horrible...maybe the worst wait staff in Colorado Springs. They could care less if your food sits on the shelf waiting to be delivered...because they are on break or using the bathroom (yikes, do they wash their hands) and you can just sit and wait until they are in the mood...it is like a little class warfare going on.

The last ime I was there a couple of weeks ago two waitresses argued over who was supposed to serve our table, not because they both wanted to, but because neither of them wanted to...my wife and I felt very unloved....or was it a bother we felt, that's it we were bothering them by coming in.

I do carry out or sit at the sushi bar...just to avoid the bratty girls who expect to be tipped for their insolence...but even then you gavento wait at the cash register for them to take notice you are waiting.

Re: “Jun Japanese Restaurant - Dublin

I love Jun's. I've been going there for 3 years. My Japanese instructor recommended it (she's native Japanese) and I love it. I lived in Japan for a short while and crave authentic Japanese food. Jun's does a damn good job keeping it as authentic is possible for American tastes. I've never had a bad experience there and the sushi rolls are always excellent.

I always get a nice warm (and traditional) "いらっしゃいませ" when I walk into their establishment; it feels like a little slice of Japan.

Re: “Sushi Ring

I love Sushi Ring! This is the best, and freshest sushi, as well as the most value for your buck in Colorado Springs. Elvis and crew are the friendliest and most generous folks group of people. Go there once and you will be remembered and greeted by name the next time you come back. Also keep in mind that they will continue to offer you more and more, because they want to make sure you have eaten your fill. They really treat each one of their customers very special. The best time to go is evenings, where for a small price, you can have all you can eat made to order sushi. I recommend the upside down shrimp and the octopus cucumber salad. Tres Parfait!

Re: “Sushi Ring

I heard this place had super fresh fish with an Elvis twist so I checked it out today. I just had a Rainbow Roll, not all you can eat. The fish was indeed very fresh and it was topped with sweet tobiko. All was fine until I went to pay the bill. Instead of being charged $10.95 as on the menu, I was told the price was $12.95 because of the new computer cash register. I asked why the menu was a different price and was told "all prices have gone up but they don't have a new menu yet." They insisted on charging me a price 20% higher than advertised. I will never go there again.

Re: “Kura Japanese Restaurant

We lived in Japan for three years and consider ourselves to be foodies, visiting restaurants at least 3x a week while there. We learned the language, took time to study the cuisine, and visited some of the finest establishments in Japan. By no means experts, we are widely experienced enough to recognize a "good" sushi restaurant. Given the limited choices in Colorado Springs, Kura happens to be one of the best -- along with Fujiyama downtown and Tomo on Academy. Kura is the only sushi joint in town that has a Japanese-born (and speaking) waitress and they sport the second-best sake menu in town (Tomo's is the best). The Mu sake with sashimi is well recommended, but their California rolls are awful because they use a salad mixture instead of separate avocado / crab / cucumber. HOWEVER, California Rolls in nearly all Colorado Springs sushi restaurants are are terrible for the same reason. The service is always quick at Kura, the menu includes lots of non-sushi items for colleagues who don't want sushi (the gyoza is good), and the price vs. quality ratio is right on. Now that we have kids we go out only 1x a week but it's Kura sushi 2 out of every three times we go out. Try the Mu sake and ask for it served in an ice bucket.

Re: “Jun Japanese Restaurant - Dublin

Jun is the best in town. Yes, it doesn't have the best atmosphere but the sushi its out of this world. Good pricing, large portions! We go there every other week and the waitresses take very good care of us. They even remember our usual order. Fantastic sushi!

Re: “Fujiyama

Fujiyama has the best sushi but the service is poor. This might be the problem with the low tipping. Get hard working staff in there and this could be a 5 star place! The sushi chefs seemed to be better though a year ago. Staff changes frequently at this place. Thats not a good sign.

Re: “Jun Japanese Restaurant - Dublin

We visited Jun's for our anniversary on Sat Feb 5, 2011 and it was not very busy. Pretty snowy out. We read they had the best sushi so decided to check it out. Yes the sushi was good but the atmosphere was kinda run down. We were not greeted when we walked in and so did not know if we should seat ourself so we did. The server was preoccupied with a table of two customers. We finally got a menu and drink and ordered. Got our food but were never asked if we would like water or another drink. She came and checked on us once immediately after we got the food and then not again until we finished eating. Overall, I am rating a 2 star because to me service and atmosphere is also key to having a returnable experience. Unfortunately we won't be back.

Re: “Tomo Sushi

Love the place, have enjoyed going there since finding it in 2008. Solid performance, reliable service, delicious food, and 10% off rolls during happy hour have made me a dedicated repeat customer.

Re: “Tomo Sushi

The quality of sushi is amazing! The consistency is amazing! As an additional plus they have the most extensive sake selection I've ever seen! Junmai daiginjo grade sake... not at all easy to come by in Colorado! Fantastic!

Re: “Fujiyama

The staff, drinks and menu are great. It is my favorite sushi place in the Springs. However, I did sit at the bar several times and watched the chefs make the rolls. One of them does not wear gloves, but all the others do, including the owner. I know that some chefs do not wear them because it interferes with the creation process, but PLEASE, put some gloves on. This guy was handling raw fish, wiping his hands, every now and then, with this dirty, wet cloth. I am sorry, but I find it disgusting.

Re: “Fujiyama

To everyone who wants to go to Fujiyama, I'd like to fill you in on one of the arguments I've overheard while eating there. I used to like this place and had a lot of fun with the former bartender 'Joe". But, what I heard made me sick, and I will never spend another cent in that place. The Psychotic owner belittling the staff while she sat on her ass trying desperately to impress her "friends". She attacked the waitress and told her that she would give her a twenty dollar penalty for some reason. I was told that the restaurant takes a huge chunk of the waiters tips in order to get away with not paying the sushi chefs, who are obviously the only members of the staff the owners care about. I'm also in the service industry and know how hard waiters have to work to make their money. Not only do we have to put up with assholes who act like they have the right to put you down, but owners and managers constantly looking for a way to screw you out of our hard earned money. Im sorry to go of on a tangent, but its infuriating. If you do go to Fujiyama, please tip your server with cash, at least that way they might get to keep a little more.
