Not sure why the Indy acts like there is no election in County Commissioner District 2... hmm. It's actually fracking versus no fracking - kinda important! These kind of gaffes are why some of us don't pay attention to Indy endorsements!

smartestman, I think liberals are more amused by the binders comment than offended, but you are correct. It really has no substance and ought not to be a deciding factor in anyone's decisions.
On the other hand, Willy did not go searching for those resumes proactively, as he portrays it. The binders were handed to his campaign, and to his opponent's campaign, before the election. The real giveaway is that he never placed any women into important executive positions when he ruled Bain Capital.

Speaking of China, even as Willy was talking tough, Bain was busy packing up the Sensata factory in Freeport, Illinois for shipment to China, where it will be re-assembled. The workers were not unionized. The company earned record profits in 2011. The workers were required to train their Chinese counterparts before they were fired.
If Willy was really serious about keeping American jobs in America he could intervene, but he is hiding behind his "blind trust" and pretending he is not involved in any way. He wants us to believe he cares for American jobs and American workers, while he stands by as his company closes down a profitable, non-union shop.

The comparison of Willy to a contender taking the fight to the champ, invites another analogy. In case of a tie, the fight goes to the champ. In the case of the debate, a tie means the president wins.

Candy Crowley did not "interject her wrong opinion on the terrorist issue." She corrected a factual error.
Before you blow your top, smartestman, and post your inevitable diatribe, splitting semantic hairs and counting paragraphs, (as if you thought of it yourself, when you actually crib it from FOX) you should know that all your whining and quibbling makes no difference whatsoever as it misses the real point: your shameless exploitation of these deaths for your petty political ends is offensive.

Bringing up Willy's investments in China was not a cheap shot. If anything, Obama went too easy on Romney's China connection. As the Outsourcer-in-Chief for Bain he should know enough about the ins and outs of the situation to come up with concrete and practical ideas for reversing the trend, but instead of specifics, as with all of his other "policy positions," all we hear are platitudes and promises.
During his infamous closed door meeting, the one where he disparaged the 47%, Romney also told the gathering about a trip he took to China to inspect their factories and workers. The working conditions he described are very little short of slavery. Yet, when he promises to rake China over the coals, does he even hint at bringing up human rights violations? Not at all. His only concern is for their currency manipulation.
Bain and Romney would be reluctant to move jobs to China if China were required to pay their workers a living wage and provide them with humane working conditions, but pushing that policy would cut into their bottom line. On the other hand, raising the exchange value of Chinese currency would have the added benefit of raising the value of any Chinese currency that Bain and Romney might happen to be holding.

Both candidates gave a good performance at last night's debate. Prez Obama showed his consistent attitude of restraint and quiet confidence. Romney was a bit more on the attack, attempting to ruffle the Prez's feathers, but as the contender he's supposed to.
Regarding the tax plan that Romney spoke of though, specifically his suggestion to make interest, dividends & ca
pital gains tax free to those who earn under $200,000 a year: It sounds great as a sound bite doesn't it? Sadly, very few people in the American working class have enough left in investments, after the 2008 market crash, to earn enough in interest, dividends & cap gains to make this promise meaningful to most Americans, especially considering the trade offs.
Eliminating itemized deductions like the home mortgage deduction? This would be crippling to the housing industry! Not the move of a job creator. Another big oops, my bad, I didn't mean what I said by Romney. Or is it? Either he just hasn’t thought about the repercussions, or he just doesn’t care. What do you think?
Eliminating charitable deductions would be equally devastating to the country's nonprofits, who would have double the load after the contender's proposed cuts to planned parenthood, PBS & other social programs.
This tax plan seems like an attempt at justifying Romney's proposal to continue the Bush era, 10-15% tax rates on capital gains for those earning over $200K. It is excellent PR, but it’s effect will be to increase taxes on anyone who currently uses either the home mortgage interest or charitable deductions, which happens to be the middle class. 4 years ago I was disappointed with the Independent and stopped reading because of the obvious bias. I decided that it was the same as other news of the day.
Today, a friend encouraged me to read it because the "Best" lists came out. I came across this article before I read the Best Lists. Articles like this, where the Independent shows how far from independent they really are, are the reasons that I don't read it. "For the record, we're not weighing in on candidates from outside the two major parties ..."
If you are the voice of someone who is independent then how would you leave out the people that are fighting against the status quo? The Democrats & the Republicans have had their chance. Look at what they have done with it. They have made their citizens more dependent, rather than independent. They both have taken away more of our freedoms than I can ever remember in my lifetime. Neither party is getting out of the way so that citizens can truly be independent. Our country is a twisted version of what was intended.
This election I will be casting my vote for 3rd party candidates, Gary Johnson for president. I will be voting my conscience, rather than the people the Main Stream Media, you included, tell me has a chance to win. There are 2 races on my ballot that I am still undecided on & have yet to finish my research. In those races I will vote for a candidate I can agree with. I will not 'hold my nose & vote' against someone I agree with more than the person I don't like. I'd rather skip the question. If more people voted like this our country could be very different.

With less than 3 weeks to election day, this is turning out to be a close race for President and an interesting race at the state and county level with serious challengers to incumbents and important funding issues on the ballot.
