The David Ramseys and the Paul Klees of local Colo Spgs Sportswriting are - of their own - quite capable and well-proven; professionals in their own right.
The guy, though, that had their jobs years ago is still around.
With Uncle Ralph's insight, articulation and expression - he clearly set the bar up just a bit higher than those who've come since: sports honey simply drips from this guy's fingertips; the Great Local Sports Reader of Gridiron Grassleaves ...
Excellent writeup on Super Bowl XXXXX, Ralph!
Ralph, I know that this isn't sports reporting; it's sports commentary. But in marketing, your column falls under the "putting lipstick on the pig" category. The loss of the affiliation with the Rockies, no matter how incompetent the management or disappointing the the team - will cost the Sky Sox at least 25% of their paying customers. And building a fan affinity for the Milwaukee Brewers is a long term and costly proposition - which may not be worth the effort, given the standard two year contract and decidedly luke- warm welcome from the Brewers.
In short, this is at best a serious financial challenge for the Elmores, and at worst, a sea of red ink, just the color that pig is wearing.
Geez, Ralph. After all these years, you still don't know a damn thing about football.
Miami Dolphins Jersey,Mike Wallace Jersey and Ryan Tannehill Jersey:
The phrase "forever-befuddled front office" is a masterpiece of understatement.
The one thing I remeber about '97, is a certain sports reporter for the Gazette getting each and every single word he said about the Broncos absolutely wrong. You could make book on this guy in Vegas, just whatever he said, bet the opposite way. Ah yes, 1997, and after the Broncos thoroughly dismantled the Super Bowl champs last night, I just want to say the same thing I said in 1997. Ahem .... "Nice prediction Nostradumbass". Wow, it's been so long it feels fresh and new again. Keep predicting the Broncos losses Routon, that'll get them to the Super Bowl for sure!
I completely enjoyed the conversations I was privileged to have with him in these last couple years. While they may have been fairly brief, they left something with me, and I'm thankful to have met him.
Lessee, 29 seconds on the clock. Two time outs. Need a field goal to win. 100 million dollar quarterback. Naw, take knee. I'm done with Fox.
The kneel down is arguable as to whether or not it was a mistake (I happen to agree that it was). That was minor compared to some of the other mistakes made by the Broncos and they were numerous.
My point on the cold was - It made less difference to the Ravens who seem to have been more motivated to win.
Do you want to know what really beat the Broncos? It was the cold. Bailey and Manning, two of the three best players on the team and two of the oldest, were adversely effected by the cold. The Broncos believed (and rightfully so) they were the better team, therefore they didn't give the extra effort required to win. The Ravens, inspired by Ray Lewis and being a 9 point dog, came in angry and hungry and determined. The Ravens didn't even feel the cold. Unfortunately, we did.
This naysayer would have applauded Fox if Manning had thrown an interception in the final seconds. A right decision is a right decision, regardless of the outcome. Showing courage - showing belief in your team - is always the right decision. Fox made a mistake by tossing away that final chance in regulation. Cold? So what. The Ravens defenders had to battle the same cold. Fox made a huge mistake. A cowardly mistake.
I'll go with crazy over surprised.
Stunning. Heretofore I had thought PSU was an educational institution, now it is clear to me it is a cult. Is there somewhere you folks can go for deprogramming?
I have followed the SANDUSKY scandal closely ever since November. I have read everything both pro and con PSU and Paterno that I can get my hands on, including the Freeh report in its entirety which has led me to two main conclusions.
Conclusion #1 There are very few people who are really interested in the welfare of the children and understanding what really happened here so that it can be prevented from happening again because if the children were the main concern, there would be a public outcry to investigate The Second Mile (the conduit for Jerry Sandusky and the organization he founded and was employed by), Pennsylvania’s DPW (who totally mishandled the 1998 case) and the procedures in place at the high schools where Sandusky was often given free reign to work with these students.
Conclusion #2 When it comes to arrogance and wielding of power, NO ONE is more guilty of that than the sanctimonious members of the media who from day 1 have been salivating at the thought of making this more about Paterno and PSU than anything else.
Your pathetic excuse for an article Point by Point
#1 Attacking the Family – Really?
If someone was accusing a member of your family of something heinous- are you telling me you wouldn’t defend them, and if you wouldn’t – all I can say is Thank God I am not a member of your family!!!!
#2 Have you bothered to read the Freeh Report in its entirety (not just Freeh’s summary or his press conference)? If you had, then you would realize that the “evidence” doesn’t support the conclusions. Not only should everyone named in Freeh’s report discredit it – they should take him to court for slander and PSU should sue him for malpractice.
#3 Paterno is the only person who expressed regret and concern and the family repeatedly expresses concern for the victims in their statements.
#4 Your mockery of the“Grand Experiment” – really?
Look at PSU player graduation rate throughout Paterno’s tenure
Talk to the people who played for him
Talk to the students who use the library that was built through donations of millions of his own personal wealth
Talk to the Paterno scholars whose education is being supported by endowments again supported by Paterno family donations
(By the way in case you can’t figure it out – the majority of people in the last 2 groups NEVER played a down of football)
#5 Iron Fist - you have got to be kidding me
Do you honestly think that there is one highly motivated, driven, successful person on the face of the planet who doesn’t have their share of detractors? And most successful people are self confident and can sometimes come off as arrogant. Look how self righteous and arrogant you are and you aren’t nearly as successful in your career path as Paterno was for years in his.
Look at all of these cultists registering just to defend the honor of "Dear Leader"...lol
Okay, so now the "Paterno" Biography is being leaked by GQ.
And what a read it is.
So, it turns out, when Paterno was fired, he assembled his coaching staff at his home and cried uncontrollably. I LOVE THAT!
But, why is Joe crying you ask? Is it for the children that Sandusky raped on Penn State Football facilities? NOPE.
He is crying because---"he doesn't know what he is going to do with himself".
Narcissistic much, Joe? His longtime assistant coach is indicted on child rape charges, and Joe is crying because he doesn't know what he is going to do.
That description of events is the perfect outline for the type of guy Paterno was. An egomaniac whose sole goal was to preserve his interests, and not those of any child Sandusky harmed.
The North Koreans have nothing on Penn State fans. I'm expecting a mandatory mourning holiday to coincide with freshmen orientation every fall---where PSU students are mandated to cry openly for their dead leader.
Why is BR posting this crap?
Riiiight, because the Freeh Group has never been discredited in the courts after issuing erroneous and fictitious conclusions.... (See FIFA report)
Keep in mind, this is a university that elected a man to their Board of Trustees whose entire platform was to have joe paterno posthumously reinstated as head football coach. These people (and I use THAT term loosely) are nuts...
"Exactky why you failed in every major market you worked in and are now working for some Colorado podunk rag."
Yet all of you weirdos flood his "rag" with comments the moment he says something about Dear Leader. Seiously, this isn't helping your image as a deranged cult worshipping a dead football coach. Is there a way to get an entire fanbase into therapy? lol
