I appreciate whoever has been cleaning here. And I also appreciate whoever keeps cleaning up the horrendous trashing of the trailhead for Seven Bridges. The weekly destruction, spray-painting and littering is a crying shame.
County Commissioners are now limited to 2 terms even though Sallie Clark and Dennis Hisey are now sering their third terms.
We are going to need a healthcare center, with all the retirees moving here. We should also consider the sports stadium and make sure that it is multi-use: soccer, baseball and events. Who cares about showcasing the Olympic athletes and the Air Force Academy? The USOC will be up and out of here in no time, all though we have tons of visitors that come here to visit that training center, for some reason. When the military continues it's pull out of Colorado Springs, we won't have much left. How about our city's future? What are we going to be about? What is the attraction that get's people to spend their money here? The days are spent outdoors (gas and goods taxes) and the nights are spent going to Denver. Let's create a draw for Colorado Springs at all hours. Just cause half of us are in bed by 7pm, doesn't mean the rest of the town is. They are looking for something to do. Let's create some excitement, before we all end up just going to sleep, for good. How about giving a little for the future, instead of asking what is this going to do for me.
There are no limits in the private sector and people are constantly talking about the importance of experience in leadership. So.... why have term limits when people have the power to exercise their vote? Have a capable, respectable representative doing a good job. Why should they lose their position because of term limits? Elected officials who don't appreciate their responsibility and abuse the trust of their position should and can be voted out. Only concerning factor could be the increasing numbers of people not voting and the ever increasing apathy towards all levels of government.
Thanks to Allison and Jessica for all that you do for those kids.
So true. They get shoved so far up the system and placed just so DHS and PO's can move onto the next next kid. These kids have mental challenges, but they are so worth the extra time, effort and energy. Society gives up so quickly. They need a plan that motivates them.
MS, it's next to the lake, on the north side.
Where is it in GMF?
So how does the AFA (Family Assn) feel about the USAFA Chapel having separate areas for Jews, Catholics, Wiccans and Spiritualists? There are even !!GASP!! Athiests among them. At least the Academy is trying to recognize their cadets sprirtual differences.
Well, how does the AFA (American Family Assn) feel about the Jews and Catholics, Wiccans and Spiritualists who also have worship areas at the USAFA Chapel?
Sallie Clark and Amy Lathen made a serious attempt to increase their terms in office from two 4-year terms to three 4-year terms. The voters cut them off at the pass on this measure and forced them to remain at just two 4-year terms.
City Council has nothing to do with the county policies. The city is a home-rule municipality - the county is nothing more than an administrative arm of state government.
Ms. Zubeck, as usual, did an outstanding job from within the Indy, as did the Business Journal, on reporting the maneuvering that took place with the Clark-Lathen attempt to increase their time in office.
I've had Lyme disease for 43 years and not one MD and health insurance was helpful. I was left on my own and ended up with advance stage of LD. Luckily, I found something that was very helpful with cutting 85symptoms down to 40 symptoms of co-infections Lyme disease causes. I believe I am better off than those who found no help. Some of the many things I used are found at www.mannamotion.com/glycojan. I also used specific coconut oils. I have lost faith is MDs and the medical system.
The only people that I see supporting this project are the developers and the ones that ran around buying the property with their inside information prior to the release of details relating to the projects.
They have found yet another way to pull the money out of taxpayers pockets and into the vaults of the wealthy insiders.
No way we need this stadium or any of the other related projects until we can figure out how to be a financially stable community through development of jobs and businesses for our citizens.
The AFA news release says, "As Sandy Rios, AFA’s Director of Government Affairs, pointed out, however, it’s amazing that a Scripture that speaks of self-sacrifice and dying to self could be construed as 'tyranny.' ”
Indeed, at one time the British found it equally amazing that a small tax on tea to support the Church of England could be construed as tyranny. Go figure...
Sunday Recall petition 11 AM to 4 PM at Walgreens on Uintah and 19th.
And shouldn't the County Commissioners job also be on that list for changed term limits. City Council told voters it would return to the ballot!
The term "anti-Christian" is also a "vitriolic and hateful comment," so it should be no surprise that it provokes a response in kind.
I started visiting Special Grounds because it's close to my house. Used it as a meeting place for my hiking group, and they were all thrilled with the warm welcome and personal attention- one woman declared she would never set foot in a Starbuck's again!
The AFA is a military organiztion with its own rules and regulations i.e. the Uniform Code of Military Justice and is not a democracy. No one gets a vote. It's a dictatorship. The cadet swear to uphold the Constitution and not someone's misinterpretation of same.
As for the cadets that want to share their religious beliefs I suggest they go to a seminary or other religious educational institution thereby opening a slot for someone who will value the education that they will receive. The Government does not finance the AFA so someone can practice their religion on the taxpayer's dime.
How would the American Family Association and Family Research Council like an outside organization telling them what to do?
The easiest thing for the Air Force Academy to do is terminate the affliations with ALL outside religious organizations and let the in-house chaplin corp do their jobs of catering to the religious needs of the cadets on an individual basis.
WHY should City taxpayers contribute sales tax dollars to build an unneeded, unwanted, underused stadium/event center next door to the proposed second USOC museum? C4C reeks of cronyism enrichment at taxpayer expense.
A 6.26.14 Gazette article reported that each of the 4 projects of C4C will be independent, meaning that "if one of the 4 projects fails, it will not affect the others." The language is clear. The proponents of C4C expect that one (or more) of the 4 projects may fail (or not be built). The only one of the 4 that is to be 100% publicly (taxpayer) funded is the stadium/event center, and it is this project that is KNOWN by the proponents to not produce enough revenue to service the bonds to build the stadium. In the Gazette article Mayor Bach said "he will establish a task force to study a variety of funding options for the downtown sports and events center." The funding options that are currently established are the City 13% sales tax revenue (above the base amount to be collected over 90% !!! of the city) and a rebated State sales tax that is calculated on the increased sales tax revenue to be (maybe) received. The Gazette article makes it clear that this will be insufficient and that revenue streams from additional sources will be needed.
Question #1: WHY build this stadium?
Question #2: WHY can't City taxpayers VOTE on whether or not they are willing to pay for this new stadium - which duplicates the World Arena - with future sales tax revenue dollars? This is revenue that will not go into the City General Fund to be spent on genuinely necessary items such as infrastructure, police, fire, roads, parks, potholes, etc.
Thanks, Pam! YOU could get the Association of Alternative Newsmedia award if you would go behind the curtains on this story. An investigation of the political machinations of C4C should be done . . . before the stadium component of C4C is a done deal . . . and before no one can stop it . . . and before there is nothing to be said but "I told you so." And thanks to Murray for being a concerned citizen and then some!
