"Trump has no intention of doing anything but fixing the broken system in Washington, which is why Americans elected him. In this way, Trump will endeavor to perform a full "revolution" of government and has no interest in evolutionary tactics."
The reality is that he will fail because he will not be able to get rid of the entrenched bureaucrats and programs and agencies they are in. He will not be able to clear the temple of the moneychangers.
A true revolution, Eli, would do by force what Trump will fail by administration. Republicans and Democrats still haven't figured out that power is but an illusion completely dependent on one's acceptance of it, and the aforementioned bureaucrats will simply not accept it.
"Hillary Clinton has spent her life fighting the fights that make me a Democrat: health care for children, religious tolerance, a living wage, good schools, equal rights for all Americans and preserving our environment."
Yeah, right. Keep believing that nonsense. Hillary has always been about herself and only herself, and if others benefit, it's a side effect, not an intent, except to garner votes.
"In this election it was easy to support Secretary Clinton on the issues. And the opportunity to elect an experienced, highly qualified woman as president was historic."
Not at all. Her issues were her ego, criminality, and her body count. 2113 federal felonies plus felony perjury can't all be wrong.
"But it is important to remember that Americans will not tolerate a Twittered-up leader who brags about abusing women, mocks people with disabilities, threatens immigrants, cozies up to oligarchs foreign and domestic, demonizes people because of their religion and governs as a "post truth" president."
It's also important to remember, Maday, that Americans will not tolerate a dishonest leader who tramples individual rights, dismisses half of the nation as "deplorables," stereotypes people without knowing them, and in general acts like an entitled queen when she and her comrades belong in prison.
Time to address the Hazy Hurts...
"Yeah, we're still shocked and horrified. Yeah, writing those once-unspeakable words is weird and painful."
You're in your 70s. Why don't you grow up and act your age? Trump got elected because liberal smugness, including yours, got thoroughly rebuked. You're only horrified because you think you know what's best for people, and you clearly don't as the people have spoken such.
"Trump has embraced two apparently contradictory notions: to lower America's overseas military profile and increase defense spending."
They do not contradict at all. The cost savings from not being all over the entire planet will be reinvested in defending CONUS and our necessary possessions, not invading and occupations as your girl Hillary would do. It's called waging peace, something that Democrats like you often forget about--except when Republicans are in power.
"Interestingly, this neo-Keynesian economic stimulus program..."
Since when is giving or (road and gas) tax dollars back to us "neo-Keynesian", unless one is either so unversed in economics, or one thinks that government owns taxpayers' money, or both? Oh, wait, that's a liberal mantra again...
"Middle-aged white men often don't have marketable skills..."
You really are an idiot, aren't you? Most of the same defense sector that you commented about just above are exactly that demographic, the same skills folks that build your Internet and most of the innovations that the snowflakes and the liberals use without thinking. Come build and drive our satellites, program our mainframes, and repair our cars, then get back to us when you finally have a clue.
"But as one whose campaign may have benefited from Vladimir Putin's clever cyber warfare..."
Got news for you: Hillary's hacks, self-inflicted, as well as the DNC, weren't Russia. They were NSA. You just wanted an easy scapegoat tied to Trump to blame. In the classified world, of which you are not a part and never will be, we know better.
"Will he be stupid enough to begin mass deportations, kill off Obamacare without a seamless transition to Trumpcare, require electric utilities to switch from natural gas to coal or withdraw from NAFTA and send the economies of the United States, Canada and Mexico into lasting recession?"
Remove trespassers is stupid? More like enforcing property rights and rule of law. When did those become stupid?
Kill off ACA? Bring it on, because it was a fiasco in the first place. It's interesting how liberals are anti-corporation, except when it comes from transferring wealth from the middle class to the insurance corporations by ACA, while simultaneously putting more and more people on the government dime.
Switch to coal from gas? Got news for you: Most energy companies, including local CSU, mix it up with multiple energy technologies, because they understand what you don't: it takes all of them to get the job done.
Withdraw from NAFTA? I thought liberals were pro-union, and withdrawing from NAFTA will bring union manufacturing jobs back to the nation. Or are you just upset because it's not a Democrat doing it, and Ross Perot was correct all along?
Lasting recession? Don't know what planet you're on, but here on Earth the recession of 1990 never really ended, because the economic numbers that everyone allegedly relies on forgot the most important parts of food and fuel. But then again, liberals don't understand economics, so that lack of a clue isn't surprising.
"As he might say, it's simple. Borrow a shitload of money, put millions to work on thousands of infrastructure projects, preside over national prosperity and spend the weekends in New York City."
Well, once upon a time, the narrative was just as simple: Borrow a shitload of money, put millions to work on thousands of infrastructure projects, when that didn't help, drag the nation into a World War, and spend the weekends in Georgia. That was FDR. Once again, you're only complaining because it's a right statist and not your girl Hillary.
Hazy, it's long past time for you to hang it up. Sage, you aren't, and haven't been for decades. City Rage is more like it. Stick your rocking chair at the nursing home.
Mary J Talbot: Good letter, but you had best send it to Lois "Absent" Landgraf as well.
Fred Kormos: So what? The Democrats have a long history of racism and misogyny, as statist tend to do, since actual freedom is anathema to them, regardless of being left or right.
Bob Armintor: Trump University has nothing to do with national security. Get your brain straight? Fat chance.
J.T. Welch: Get lost, comrade. You have no frickin' clue about much of anything. Try supporting freedom instead and maybe you'll eventually get educated enought to understand why it is the superior path.
Sally Alberts: Have a binky for your ridiciculous and infantile whining. You sound like you honestly believe that there's a serial rapist who hates anyone not WASP behind every tree. Grow Up!
Jim Bensberg: Ride all you want, but police your own, expecailly the idiots going way too fast on the crotch rockets up and down both Academy and I-25.
Bailey Thomas: Wrong question, posed by someone who doesn't understand economics. The better one to ask is why can't nations settle their differences in the sports arenas rather than the battlefields?
Mimi Vacher: Have a binky and grow up.
Marijuana taxes contribute $0 to school operational funds, the money that pays for teachers, books and technology. The marijuana tax law stipulates a maximum of $40 million goes into school construction. D11 has no need to build a new school at this time, and because of our assessed valuation as a major consideration in applying for these funds, D11 is likely to never see a dime of this money.
since we couldn't handle a candidate with a personal server... we get president elect p***y grabber. the rest is debunked garbage... find a source of news that involves facts. we cannot be living in a post factual society... come on people.
CSaction video of the march and rally: https://youtu.be/XSm71YOnQJg
I can understand the Trump bashing, yet I cannot understand how anyone can think Clinton was a suitable alternative. Backing a pathological liar that has been involved in nearly a dozen sizeable "scandals" and who has left a trail of bodies behind her in every pursuit just makes no sense.
If -- it it true, as the gentlemen in the article states is true that Colorado Springs has a negative image around the nation - how does sending someone like Amy Lathen to represent Coloado Springs in Washington, D.C. improve that image? Can you imagine her in a meeting with Michael Bennet?
Don't be misled. The massive hail storms that battered large swaths of the city is the cause of this spike in sales tax revenues - as residents were busy spending insurance claim money on car/home repairs and replacements. Next year their insurance bills will skyrocket and spending will likely tank.
The district might not think that an extra $100-$200 a year in property taxes is a big deal, but to many people it is, especially considering that insurance, utility bills, phone bills, cable rates, etc., are also on the rise. It was also a bad idea to think that people would swallow the whole $235 million pill all at once, especially since it was possible to look at the districts spending plan for it and see items that simply didn't seem that critical. A separate school maintenance bond would likely have passed since people can clearly see how the district has let the schools crumble in order to move money to other areas.
You're wrong about CSF's political affiliation. Chuck Murphy is a D and others. If CSF was trying to get the money of a mostly Democrat majority, that would be their flavor-- it is purely a demographic analysis for them about what's needed to get their agenda met. Members have excorciated conservative voices for opposing their agendas more than they have done so for others. They are principle-less except in the principle of enriching themselves and providing the best opportunity to get taxpayer corporate welfare for themselves. That's all fine--it's a free country, but short of time-intensive personal research there is no way for the average citizen to know anything about "who's behind the curtain." Besides Pam and her informative approach, all the public sees is CSFs PR facade of wanting to "end divisiveness" and rainbow ponies, because that's what the Gazette puts out and shows up on billboards.
It just proves why our government was intended to be at least a two party system - so that all citizens had some chance of having their voices heard. If one party controls all the elected positions and appointed offices that is not a democratic approach to governing. So it is no surprise the "funders" of the party in charge of all things El Paso County are the real ones running the City and County. And yes it is difficult to live here - discouraging when everyone complains about how bad the roads are and no one wants a downtown stadium yet they just refuse to give anyone not hand picked by the powers that be a chance of trying to make a difference. But if you and others with a different point of view leave then who will be left to be a thorn in their side? Someone has to at least try to keep them honest.
why were we in Iraq again... oh yeah, W the torturer lied us into a un-necessary war. Why did W the torturer kiss the Saudi's ass... I mean ring / cheek... ??? why did W the torturer send all his Saudi buddies home the day after 911... ??? every president has considered Saudi Arabia as an ally in the region. perhaps that will change when gump becomes prez... he will just steal oil from the afghan's... the spoils of war... right???
Agree about most of the Bernie stuff though.
The school capital construction only applies to building a new building as I have understood it. this does nothing for the needs of d11 that already has too many schools. most school districts get nothing from the pot fund as it currently stands.
How comforting it is to know that a handful of wealthy patrons are looking after me and the city in which I live - even going so far as to provide me with a ready-made palette of candidates for office. Not.
One can only hope that, being fully accustomed to getting their own way, the members of CSF and like-minded other organizations will find at least one issue upon which there is hearty disagreement. One further hopes that each puts itself out-of-commission while doing battle to gain the upper hand.
The more I learn about the inner-workings of Colorado Springs, the less I want to live here.
Why do you need this money? Remember this?
Use and Regulation of M arijuana
Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution
concerning marijuana, and, in connection therewith, providing for the regulation
of marijuana; permitting a person twenty-one years of age or older to consume or
possess limited amounts of marijuana; providing for the licensing of cultivation
facilities, product manufacturing facilities, testing facilities, and retail stores;
permitting local governments to regulate or prohibit such facilities; requiring the
general assembly to enact an excise tax to be levied upon wholesale sales of
marijuana; requiring that the first $40 million in revenue raised annually by such
tax be credited to the public school capital construction assistance fund; and
requiring the general assembly to enact legislation governing the cultivation,
processing, and sale of industrial hemp?

Under President Obama (who I voted for twice) we've sold about $110 billion of military weaponry (by far the most in our 70+ year alliance with the country) to Saudi Arabia- the closest nation the world has to being a true Caliphate. We toppled foriegn and soveriegn governments for selective economic interests, and groups like ISIS have filled the void of leadership.
It would have been great to not have Trump in the White House. When it became apparent that the DNC had corrupted the primary process (this has since been verified, even though we all really knew all along), effectively stealing the nomination from Bernie- where was the outrage? Instead, liberals and democrats got in line, and allowed the corruption of our democracy. Many liberals even defended it, saying HRC's been in politics so long, of course she would do corrupt things and we should grow up and vote for her anyways.
Nixon resigned for far less___
So what happened? I would say that we didn't deserve the presidency this go around. Thank god we didn't win it- imagine the precedent that would set? Forever submitting to the most corrupt politician with the ignorant and enabling consent that "politicians are just corrupt, we deal".
Again, to all the pseudo-liberals out there who saw the corruption of our system and encouraged all of us to roll over to it- this is on you.
As a veteran of the debacle in Iraq- take my word on it that our indiscriminate bombing of other nations- the 65 million refugees of the world which we largely caused displacement for -(highest # since the United Nations High Commission on Refugees started counting shortly after WW2)----- is the most important issue we need to address as a nation- not any of our chosen social causes, nothing beats this issue people.
If you vote for women's rights at home, for marijuana rights at home, for LGBT rights at home, but vote for politicians pledging support to Saudi Arabia, which actively practices sharia law and STONES TO DEATH- in the public arena, members of the aforementioned groups---- you really, really need to re-evaluate your activity in political processes.
The saddest thing is that Bernie would have won- and he didn't because he would have been a world peace president. We are going to keep killing innocents all over the world, regardless of who we try to elect. We will continue to topple soveriegn governments for select economic interests in deals made far from the public eye, and The coalescence of the pseudo-liberals to the agenda of the DNC, even though we all smell a rat- is the cause of us living in a tyrannical state where we have no Power to change anything.
So sad to see how big money and politicians that are in their back pocket operate. We vote our mayor in but he won't allow the people to vote on a ridicules land swap that the majority of Colorado Springs doesn't want to go through! Ugg so frustrating! It's just the start of Anshutz land grab, wait till he gets rosemont reservoir and all it easements for the pipeline that goes right down Cheyenne Canyon. I'm sure it will be a great new horse trail from his new horse stables through seven fall up Cheyenne Canyon, to his new reservoir over to Emerald Fields and over to cloud camp! It will be epic ( for his guests) (all of which were once owned by Colorado Springs) He will be the proud owner of ALOT of land in c/s! I guess we can't do anything about it with a strong mayor and a very very rich man. "Cheyenne Canyon Master Plan".
