I knew a Charles Rockey, artist, that lived in Chicago, when I was a kid. And he was from Colorado. Could this possibly be the same guy? Very hard to tell by the pictures as I was about 16 and he maybe 28. That would make him about 82 now. Could this be? He was an excellent, unrecognised artist at the time. I was intrigued by his picture about alcoholism.......

I am amazed. I saw a bit on the TV show, "Caught On Camera", which I wouldn't usually bother to watch, about Jason doing the french fry and ketchup piece. I saw as the piece went on, Jason drawing a portrait of a child that looked to me like a photograph, and thought how great he was an an artist. I was amazed then to find out that he's not really all that much into art! It's like having a gift and then never opening it. I respect Jason's decision though, and see that he has tried to make it in other areas. In the end though, I am glad to see that he did end up plying his trade as an artist. I am 57 years old, and am not usually smitten by anyone's talents, but I found myself looking him up on the internet in the hope that I might one day be able to meet him face to face. When I saw he was in Colorado Springs, and that I had perhaps delivered mail to his folks both at their business and at their home over time, I was excited. I might be able to actually meet Jason. I think I'd just like to spend some time talking to him and maybe watching him work on his latest piece of art. I love that he listed his degree in college as a Rogue Scholar. I feel the same of myself.

I have a print of The Aspen Road in Colorado with a written no 30 39 and a stamp that says H.L. Standley Photographer Colorado Springs Colo. and a frame that has some paper left on it that says THE ART AND CAMERA SHOP ART DEALERS COLORADO SPRINGS. Could someone give me some info about it?

I remember going to the Simpiches store when I was younger and was always fascinated by the wonderful craftsmanship. Its great to hear about the Simpiches again and I love that the Independent wrote an article about them so people can see how talented they are! A wonderfully written article!

I am shocked, an inspiring article on the continuation of a family held craft that has world-wide appeal right in Colorado Springs. Talk about edgy for the Indy, no skeleton or spray paint art expelled from the expatriated, upper class youth we find hawking their wares locally. It is refreshing to hear about a local artist with worldwide appeal whose notoriety is not gained from shock and awe but through skill.

I agree with wendeebyrd - this is an excellent article and it sped up my visit to the FAC Modern. I was delighted with all three installations, especially the two more subtle ones. I also feel very strongly, that since we are now entering a recession, museums, galleries and critics should be giving our local artists all the support they can muster.

I personally know Mr. Grubb and if you'd like to witness some of his art ask him to open up his jounal and read you an excerpt from his travels as a hobo. You'd be amused and content to know that, on the road, there are some very eccentric characters that make life quite interesting. Congratulations on your successes now and to come Bobby!

How lucky for Colorado Springs! David Simpich's performances are spellbinding and top-notch. We used to eagerly await his visits to Atlanta so we could see him perform at the Center for Puppetry Arts. The impact of the beauty and the meaning of his shows still resonates within us. We may have to fly out to see him again one of these days. Thanks for this article that explained when and why he stopped touring with his shows.
