Why would I pay $22 to see someone that doesn't even have a torrent of their music online? I can't find anywhere to listen to his music to see if I would WANT to go...
"Twin lead guitars have long held a place in the rock tradition. You'll find them on everything from Lynyrd Skynyrd..."
Too bad reporters/journalists/writers or whatever they call themselves seem to lack a certain trait these days which is the notion to research and educate. When that happens, history is lost and credit where it is due goes unpaid.
Skynyrd took a path already blazed by The Allman Brothers, who were the first ones to have southern roots and be recognized by the mainstream. Actually, one could not help but pay heed when the Brothers came on the scene. One of their trademarks was the twin lead guitar attack along with playing major scales over chord progressions as opposed to the standard rock/blues minor scale. The major scale gave the sound a country feeling, but the rhythm was rock. It has been called "Southern Rock" but Gregg Allman will say that term is like saying "Rock Rock". Rock was indeed a creation from southern born and bred musicians and rooted in the Blues.
The most notable song to feature twin lead guitars was "Blue Sky" (Allman's "Eat A Peach" LP) written by Dickey Betts. Betts is a guitarist who can play circles around most other guitarists and in many different styles. He also composed the instrumentals that were the Allmans biggest hits. Dickey was overshadowed by Duane Allman's legacy that grew from his untimely death. Betts, in the minds of FM radio listeners simply did not exist and was relegated to the shadows. Many don't realize that after Duane's death, Betts performed Duane's parts and his own in their songs on stage for some time until other guitarists were finally hired. Without Duane the Allman's had a gap, but when they fired Dickey a decade or so ago they became nothing more than a "tribute" band.
Dickey Betts however did not create the twin guitar technique (which would be two guitarists playing two different notes in a scale simultaneously creating a unique melody). Betts was influenced by Bob Wills' Texas Playboys and for anyone who wishes to listen I suggest finding Bob Will's tune "Twin Guitar Boogie". Listen to what was being played before Wishbone Ash or Lynyrd Skynyrd were born but are over-credited for in this "article".
I love her!
It is natural for people to always strive for the best. There are many tempting things which appear all the time and people have to work harder and to save as much as possible to afford as many luxuries as possible. And http://sterlingstore.co.uk/payday-loans-direct-lenders.html will become as a great help for them.
Just a correction... Music will start at 7:00PM on Saturday with opening act FIONA and the OUTSIDERS. Dawn and Hawkes will start at 8:00PM. - The Wild Goose. :-)
Thanks very much for this fine piece of journalism Chris. You nailed it man. Great and entertaining read. I mos def had to laugh at myself. You outta sight my brother. Merci beaucoup. We gotta connect somewhere down the road. Peace to you and yours.
It was a good idea to rip the song and upload on Youtube, I do guess ;-)
I guess this will be the most prominent on getting iphone and android application development featured is Thicket, an interactive delicacy programmed by Denver-based musician Morgan Packard and his visual-art cohort Joshue Ott. Thicket turns iPhone and iPad touchscreens into a rarefied audio-visual playground.
Cocain Richard: It was a shot at P. It didn't say at shows he promotes. Saying he is more mainstream then underground. Actually I just play there music. I don't know what they are going to perform. If they want to lip sync then they can. That's up to them. I always can tell when they do and yeah it is wack when ppl just lip sync. Even if you perform over your CD who cares? That's how that person feels comfortable performing. Many lose their voice and have the vocals on the track help them save their voice a bit. Either way its up to them how they want to perform. P brings a lot of talent to Colorado Springs and puts on a lot of local acts from all over southern CO on shows. If it wasn't for him artists wouldn't have a place to showcase their talents or just do something they love. No one I actually have DJed for has ever lip synced. Some have used their vocals on a few or a lot of songs but they are all performing. Plus it is always better when doing a big show that you have some vocals on a track because honestly the sound guys don't care about support acts on shows. They focus on just the headliners unless they know the artist.
Calm down CocainRichard!!!! No hate intended toward anyone, just speaking on the question asked.P puts a lot of people on in different ways, and thats a great thing. Continued success to all, and lay off the coke richard. Lmao. #ABD
Black P promotes shows where it is openly acceptable to rap over lyrics. He is not being accused of lip sync'n in the article. However, I have seen people Dj Shevy Dj'd for at union station lip sync their butts off for paying customers at a Black P promoted show... the point being made is that in one local scene it is not acceptable to play an entire CD with vocals and perform on top of it, and in the other led by one Black P the promoter IT IS ACCEPTED..
Black P actually doesn't use his vocals on every track. Some on the hook and only 2 songs. One song he jumps in the crowd and the other is a song he is featured on. Either way he is actually performing ALL his songs. He isn't lip syncing at all, not one bit. When he performs you hear his voice over the tracks that may have vocals or back up vocals. If you can't tell its 100% him on stage then he must have that much stamina or you just aren't listening. I support all local acts and talent. I have been in the seen for few years now and respect everyone who goes after a dream. I know Black P is actually rapping because I have ALL his show cuts on my laptop, I am his DJ. I have been his DJ since the Brass Knuckle King album. I have DJed for most of the Hip-Hop acts in Colorado Springs, Denver, Foco and other parts of the state and I have heard artists that really do lip sync and just act like they are rapping. Black P, on the other hand, is most defiantly not faking his performance. The ReMINDers use their voices 100% as well. I know they weren't included in that but just in case people questioned their performances. I have DJed for them several times and you can't fake their performance. To me, Black P and The ReMINDers are the leaders of southern CO Hip-Hop and their track records prove it. Bottom line is Black P doesn't lip sync or use vocals on every track. He grew up on performing the lyrics word for word over the beat. He is 100% performing EVERY track on stage with or without back up vocals. Go to a show and see for yourself.
Can't wait for Thursday's show! We have seen the Steep Canyon Rangers several times, and they are great.
@siggie Go to his show. I just went last night and there was just great music. There's no need to miss out because of that fear. If you love the guy, go listen to him.
I don't expect him to come out with a new album soon, he just released Life Acoustic and it is great. But when Everlast does release something new I'll buy it. I didn't care for La Coka Nostra but glad to see Everlast is doing hip hop still.
Next album a hip hop album. Cool!
fix your article! That would be Agents of Oblivion not Age
