Where is that mural in the above posted photo?
I truly don't understand how Forman continues to run a music section that purposefully neglects the local music scene in all its variety. The Indy is not The Rolling Stone.
Jazz is far beyond the "potential" stage. Jazz is firmly established as America's "classical" music. Modern Jazz is far more interesting than modern experimental "classical" music. On the other hand, Rock and Roll is a younger cousin to Jazz. Both styles spring from the same roots and the best progressive Rock and Roll starts to sound like Jazz. In the future, Rock may come to be considered just another Jazz style, like Dixieland, Bebop, etc.
Instrumental jazz's potential is far greater than than that of instrumental rock. IF you get bored with rock and rap, come out and see some jazz here in the Springs.

Maybe next a column complaining about duck face poses?
One decent thing to come out of this trend is that some have discovered great artists as they jumped on the bandwagon and turned their backs on Slash's solo. Norman Blake won a Grammy™ for his work on O' Brother Where Art Thou? He certainly deserved it. But what's better is the amount of newcomers that are checking out his new album, Wood, Wire & Words. Bandwagons are very much annoying. And there are musical consequences for sure, as this column points out. However at the end of the day, a forgotten and ignored by the masses genre of music has been rediscovered. It will morph eventually. Maybe the world is now ready for RapGrass. Shit... now I want to shower after typing that.
Lucky that MH still performs for us!
great report, Bill. It's so hard to find anything about Kanye West in the news.
Perp-walk this talentless criminal to a small cage and be done with him.
This is great news........I never thought John would make it thru his troubled past. Thank you, Indy, for this report!
A really incredible voice, deserves a lot more recognition. If you get the chance to see her, go. You won't be disappointed.
An inteligent, interesting woman, with a unique voice, making interesting and beautiful music.
got that dumb jazz coverage out of the way for another year.
awesome music coverage by the Indy. What would we do without it?
I had the great good fortune to hear ItsaRealLight speak at the "We are Women" gathering. What a talented woman she was and a real inspiration, too. I am so sorry to hear of her passing but she leaves the world a better place simply because she was here and shared her gifts.
Such a beautiful soul gone to soon! But, God makes no mistakes!! Til we meet again my friend. Love you!
Loring, an amazing article about an amazing woman. Thank you so much and thanks to the Independent newspaper.
I haven't cried, i couldn't cry until I read this....i love you sis. Long talks over the phone sharing your emotional pain with me while I endured my own in the sorrowful hills of Pennsylvania. I heard you, you felt me a sisterhood as I watched you grow from Natasha Spence to ItsRealLight, from silly sleep overs to stages and bright lights. Peace Love and Light my friend...you will sing again on that great getting up morning. Who could ever forget........
