When I heard they listenend to Merle and Willie I got pretty excited, then I listened to their cuts...bummer, sounds like another cookie cutter band turned out by the Nashville Country Music Machine that dictates what is on the radio. That's too bad. For some real country visit wayne the train hancock, the Hacienda Brothers, oh yeah and don't forget Deke Dickerson and the Echo Fonics. Don't be a slave to pop radio! Some great tunes out there, give em' a listen.

There has not been a band of musicians in Colorado Springs since Auto-No. There have been bands of hacks and egos with instruments, or a skinny punk or two thinking he plays Hendrix but doesn't even play Stevie who couldn't play Hendrix. There has been some talent and some gracious artists but Chuck and The No could play it real five nights a week, week after week. Alas, the Springs has always been kind of "Dumbtown" in a musical sense which explains the constant "No music scene" complaint I have heard since the late 1970's. You want a "scene"? Then pony up the dough for the good pickers and then shut the f*** up. Chuck played one of the best renditions of "Voodoo Chile" I have heard and I saw Hendrix play it too! Local DJ lady played Hendrix' version on radio once and announced it as "Voodoo Chili" from "Electric LandLady". Yeah, dumbtown alright... quick: what are the opening words to Positively Fourth Street? If you don't know then Dumbtown needs a mayor and a village idiot... Rock on Chuck, I'll stomp a mudhole in anybody's ass who says you ain't shit. That would make us both Happy Boys!

Congrats to Paramore who have infused the airwaves with something new and edgy, especially "Ignorance", which touches on painfully difficult relationships and perhaps deeper social and political issues than the lyrics may suggest. I would bet that even Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck could relate, after all, their outlet is "ignorance by choice" as a tool and bloodsucking on the ignorant as recreation.

Not sure about the comment that "back in the 80s and up through to today, Spot's production of Hüsker Dü's SST albums has been almost universally derided as lousy." Amazon customers all give "Zen Arcade" and "New Day Rising" either five stars (80%) or four stars (20%), which means both albums rate higher than Nirvana's "Nevermind."

This album is fantastic. I bought the Deluxe edition off their website and was glad I did. It includes a 25 page booklet with lyrics, photos and the inspiration behind each song. And to cap it off they listed the name of each person who bought this edition. How cool is that? Personally, I love it that Carly Simon cameos on Should I Pray? I think the author here is trying to be too cool in dissin' Ms Simon.

I like your coinage "Sino-Americana." As one quite familiar with Washburn's music, I think it's a perfectly succinct yet full description of her unique sound. One clarification: the Sparrow Quartet did not play at the Beijing Olympics, though they did play shows in and around Beijing during the 2008 Olympics. "A fact that until now has flown low low below the radar is that The Sparrow Quartet was supposed to play an Olympic venue in Beijing...but we didn't play an Olympic venue," wrote Washburn in her blog "Tales of Abigail" (at www.abigailwashburn.com) on August 28.

Thank you for the great article about Los Lonely Boys. Be sure to attend their upcoming acoustic set. I went to six of their acoustic performances last November on the East Coast and loved every second of it. I can never have enough of their music. It would be great to have a review of the concert from you.
