Why do you always leave theLoft out?
theElement was the same way.
I feel theLoft is doing far more to build the "scene" in Colorado Springs than all those places you listed combined. Even The Black Sheep gives them more credit than you do.
theLoft gives people like me something to belong to, something bigger than me to be a part of. They aren't just serving music to those already in the scene, they are paving the way into a non-musical community and inviting people you'd never reach with Reverb to be a part of our ever growing "Scene". I was not into music and bands before I became a theLoft regular, and now I don't know how I survived before. All I'm saying is, even without the back of the people that should be supporting them the most, you all at the independent, they are facilitating the growth of something fantastic. You should come check it out if you havent, there's a free Christmas in August family dinner on the 15th with some great local bands. I think you might like it, seeing as you write about the same bands every week.
Adam!!! Yay, I found you on the first try! Jenny Garza here. Out on the scene!! Freshman @ PPCC however 29. Yay, to that because my music taste is diverse, and comes from experience, we'll say. Such as yours... I hear when it comes to the local scene you are where it's at. I am going to start covering the Union, for fun (for practice.) They don't mind me. I play nice. They think you and I would hit it off. Soooo, let's.
Can't find anyone else to get excited about this stuff with me Adam. Have a good feeling about you. We should team up. Or I will at least watch from a far for now. You are good. You are not afraid to throw your humor around, makes for fun, obviously. Eng Maj, BTW. We'll see what happens. I live near the Union so it's the perfect project for me. :) Be there Thursday?
We are actually headed to Europe Next week for a Germany/Prague tour then the Nebraska one, thanks for the support.
The Electric Illuminati show moved to June 25th due to Blizzard.
ell oh ell, Adam.
Well, it's a great lineup for a local show, but I think you're being a little over the top with your assertion that it's the biggest music event of the year. Right off the top of my head I can list about five shows this year that have had or will have a bigger impact than the Carnivale concert. (e.g., Devotchka w/ Haunted Windchimes at Armstrong Hall, Abigail Washburn and Sparrow Quartet (also at Armstrong), Elton John's coming to the World Arena, etc.)
Glad you're passionate, but maybe you could temper your passion with a little reality, eh?
How do you ignore Manitou Springs carnival?! There is music at every bar in town featuring Low Down High, DUG, Don Dooley, The Tribe, Arch Hooks, Grant Sabin, Creating A Newsense, The Haunted Windchimes, The Jack Trades, The Genuwines, The Woodshed Quartet and more?! It is the biggest music event in our town all year and there isn't even a peep about it here
Don't worry you still suck
If you really need to know the dates for Puddle of Mudd that badly, maybe just turn on Kilo.
I just want to chime in on this discussion about the Indy listings. I personally book bands in the area and amazed when they actually get it correct in the paper. More times than not they mess it up. I've had the days wrong, the names of the bands wrong, the venue wrong on many ocasions. The worst was the time they listed a band as another band that hadn't played for over five years! The Indy is pretty terrible when it comes to being a go to music source. I just use jambase.com now if I'm serious about doing anything. I would recomend that any musician, booking agent, bar, club etc, in this area serious about getting your listings correct use jamebase.com. You won't regret it.
My problem is his blurb is a disservice to the Colorado Springs music scene. The scene here could be so much better if there were more people involved with writing the "Reverb" column. A rotating list of columnists with different musical focuses would be a good start. I do agree it's hard to catch everything but frankly when I see major stuff get overlooked constantly it gets discouraging. Look at the bands Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins get and then take a look at the bands we get, it pales by comparison. We could have a music scene as good if not better than those cities but there isn't any reason for them to come this way. The paper should be trying to build a better and more diverse scene not just help out a the bands that some guy likes.
So is your problem that there are no comprehensive lists in the Colorado area -- lists or otherwise rather -- or that you just really dislike this particular blurb?
I'm not asking for a list. His focus is myopic at best and he only chooses to write about the bands he is friends with. Don't get me started about the conflict of interest he has when it comes to reporting his own mediocre band. I could give you a list of MAJOR artists that have come through the springs that were just passed by and ignored by his column. I do like some of the bands he reports on but man there are so many that never even get mentioned in his column. For the record the csindy calendar is worthless. It is hardly ever right except for the few bands who have an in with the paper. That is the last place I would ever go for what is going on around here.
The blurb is a small portion of what's going on, or what Adam chose to write about. Adam can't simply write about every band coming to the area, it would end up as a list. And if you want that (a list) check the calender located on the Csindy homepage.
Once again another worthless "Reverb" I've been seeing music in the southern colorado region for over 4 years and most of the band I see are never mentioned here. I have seen some killer national acts come through the springs with not even a peep about it. This is the most worthless column I have ever read. If you want to find music in this area look for another source.
Heard Cahalen on NPR last night around 2 on the way home from Memorial. I haven't heard anything quite so good in a long while.
Hey substitute editor guy- never said ya did censor me- I was just saying, "censorship, it's a beautiful thing".... As far as my "tasteless" comment, I should clarify it as being directed towards Pete Turdman- My kids like the Leech.
CENSORSHIP- IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING.
C'mon over baby, whole lot of wanking going on, I said c'mom over baby, who lot of wanking going on!!!
God forbid anyone say that some of these bands suck-
that might make them a music critic, instead of a handjob artist- Yep- maybe some articles on Burlesque- that was certainly worth a cover story...
Yeah, I got to watch the Haunted Windchimes in Honolulu...the rocked the Dragon Upstairs in Chinatown!!! What amazing talent! Come back soon. We love you guys.
