Re: “Noted: Unemployment could increase

When it comes to unemployment it’s been a tale of two recessions, with level of education playing an unprecedented role in whether you’ve been pink slipped or not. Getting a degree from "High Speed Universities" is the only solution

Re: “Noted: DEA outlaws Spice

Lawmakers are in the process of closing any loopholes that currently exist with laws pertaining to some herbal incense products, but there efforts will prove to be fruitless in the end. The prohibition of marijuana has created this demand for legal marijuana alternatives. A rather prosperous niche that will be tapped into for as long as marijuana continues to be illegal. There are many places one may still buy k2 incense and according to the vendors, like http://www.buyk2.com the k2 herb products they sell are legal everywhere.

Re: “Noted: Terri Velasquez seeks $1 million from city

How can our city council, work with someone who knowingly tried to boost his pension benefits, unless they know or knew more than they are saying. The trail is leading to our elected officals, we thougt would listen to the voters. Instead we have misinformation, not able to vote on public issue's like rate hikes, sds,b/l ranch fiasco, mis calculations on our property taxes. As a voter, I can't justify paying this person's salary another second. The mayor must fire (STEVE COX). Step-up and do the right thing. Or unless scott hente has you worried. Heck, if you could request a recall of hente.

Re: “Noted: Donna Nelson appointed city economics vitality specialist

Thank you for discussing the controversy concerning Spiel's art being excluded from the State Fair art show this year. I agree that it seems entirely inappropriate and imperious that the State Fair general manager would independently reject an artist's work, prior to it being juried. This high-handed absolutist approach to governing an art show reminds one that in our country you need not have read the books to know that burning them is wrong.

Ender, don't hold your breath waiting for an answer -- or objectivity, for that matter. Ms. Zubeck may as well be a paid member of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation's staff ... if she isn't already.

Re: “Noted: AFA religion battle continues

battle at AFA. The Academy just opened a site for wiccans and druids, according to the Chieftan. Why isn't this covered in the Independent?

Re: “Noted: AFA religion battle continues

Battle continues at AFA? True MRFF is still at war with the Academy and Ms Zubeck and the Independent appear to have become MRFF's mouth piece. But what battle? Perhaps in the mind of Mr Weinstein there is a battle. This from a man that demands the world conform to his world-view and yet can't convince the courts to do so.

I'm looking for all the reasonable, substantiated facts -- evidence of battle. How does the Academy's dedication of a Pagan outdoor chapel on 4 May fit into MRFF's Christian Dominionist conspiracy theory of world domination? See http://www.krdo.com/news/27768240/detail.h….

What does Ms Zubeck and the Independent’s lack of comment on the dedication say about their journalistic integrity? What does MRFF’s lack of comment say of its integrity as a civil rights organization? At least the ACLU sent a representative to see for themselves.

Re: “Noted: $17.3 million city surplus

TFBR, I dont need to quit for there to be room for you to get hired by the City and enjoy all the so called "great pay and benifits". Just apply to the Police Department as a Police Officer like I did many years ago. Or is it possible that when I applied and finally got hired after several attempts that you were employed somewhere that was thriving and you were making considerably more money plus profit sharing, etc etc. Meanwhile I was happy, as a I am now to have a decent paying job but just like private employees I have to pay more for everything without the benifit of bonuses and the like to have stashed away for a rainy day. We all have choices in life TFBR, I chose one course and you chose another. If the economy was different and you were still employeed then maybe you and I would have a different outlook. As it stands I picked a career years ago in something I knew had a measure of security without a potential of getting big bonuses or profit sharing but thought I would at least be valued as an employee.
The truth is many people dont want, or dont qualify for a job in my profession and that is ok but there are opportunities out there. I recently saw an opening with utilities for an engineer. Why not apply for that. All I am saying is shouldn't quality employees rate somewhere higher on the list of priorities than turning on some streetlights that pretty much no one even noticed were off??
I would like to think so but I'm sure many people that are upset that I still have a job and tell me to quit would rather have some lights on. I'm pretty sure even if every employee with the Police Department quit it wouldn't solve the cities problem since they would have to hire someone to go out and take care of the problems in the city.
I'm sure someone will complain that all the police do is write tickets but that is very short sighted. We do plenty besides write tickets. Just check our homicide clearance rates and you will find it is one of the best in the country. Thats because we have quality employees that really care about doing a great job for the victims despite the city making streetlights more important than the employees.
TFBR I dont know you or what kind of person you are. Im sure you are a good decent person just trying to make a difference but I do know it takes a special kind of person to do the work I do. Not just anyone can come off the street and do my job. I have years of experience and training and enjoy using it so I can help people that have been victimized. I dont do it for the money otherwise I would have quit years ago and worked for the defense making a lot more money. It would just be nice to be appreciated a little bit more than a street light.

Re: “Noted: Voter registration available until Monday

If this indictment is any indication, I have a feeling it's only the beginning of finding out what Mr. Bruce does in his sleazy, self-propelled life.

Douglas Bruce Indicted...Is Anyone Suprised?

Assume nothing. Years of working as a journalist, then in administrative law, taught me well to follow that two word admonition heard throughout my training years for both profession. So.....

When rumblings kept coming our way re. how corrupt Doug Bruce is, a friend and I decided to 'assume nothing', and actually give the guy a test. Seeing one of his 'slum lord' units was for rent, first I called and spoke with him, and asked appropriate questions, including what he wanted for rent.

Twenty minutes later my friend called from her phone, and early in the conversation told Bruce that she was receiving aid from the local Housing Authority. And, guess what - the price on the same unit I'd just received a quote from Bruce on, jumped up considerably in rent cost when he heard housing assistance was coming to my friend.

Greed and power addiction is certainly not a new staph infection. And what's the only cure, either nationally or locally? Investigation and prosecution, also know as following the rule of law. Go, grand jury, go! Wish that the current administration's Dept. of Justice would follow your example, and go after Cheney, et.al..

Re: “Noted: Indy Give! surpasses goals

It's a shame that the category which garnered the most donations was "the environment" when Colorado is adding children to the poverty rolls faster than any other state in the US. According to Alliance for Sustainable Colorado (a very "green" org by the way), "Between 2000 and 2009 the number of children living in poverty in Colorado more than doubled, rising faster than any other state in the nation." For more information, please see http://www.coloradokids.org/facts/kids_cou…

Until people realize that human potential is the best investment and our most precious resource, our environment will never be healthy.

Re: “Noted: $17.3 million city surplus

I also want to question the statement of a surplus when we as a City are over 1 Billion dollars behind in repairing our current infrastructure alone! There is not surplus in the Budget at all for we have taken from one line item in the budget for years to pay for the Salaries and benefits of the employees on the other!

Re: “Noted: $17.3 million city surplus

And how many PEOPLE are unemployed in this City reasoning citizen as you are crying for more? We have no income, no healthcare and the cost of living is increasing at an alarming rate! I'M TIRED OF HEARING FROM CITY EMPLOYEES "OH POOR LITTLE OLD ME"! QUIT YOUR JOB, I'LL BE GLAD TO TAKE IT AND FOR LESS!
