It's a shame that the category which garnered the most donations was "the environment" when Colorado is adding children to the poverty rolls faster than any other state in the US. According to Alliance for Sustainable Colorado (a very "green" org by the way), "Between 2000 and 2009 the number of children living in poverty in Colorado more than doubled, rising faster than any other state in the nation." Until people realize that human potential is the best investment and our most precious resource, our environment will never be healthy.
I also want to question the statement of a surplus when we as a City are over 1 Billion dollars behind in repairing our current infrastructure alone! There is not surplus in the Budget at all for we have taken from one line item in the budget for years to pay for the Salaries and benefits of the employees on the other!
And how many PEOPLE are unemployed in this City reasoning citizen as you are crying for more? We have no income, no healthcare and the cost of living is increasing at an alarming rate! I'M TIRED OF HEARING FROM CITY EMPLOYEES "OH POOR LITTLE OLD ME"! QUIT YOUR JOB, I'LL BE GLAD TO TAKE IT AND FOR LESS!
White Rabbit, dont get me wrong I am thankful to have a job. The difference is at least in the private sector when times are good there is much more potential to make a considerable amount more. With the city we may or may not see any increase. The last raise I have seen was 1% split up .5% at the beginning of the year and the other .5% in July but as I said it has been years since I have seen that. If I was able to retire right now which I cant I would pay around $1000 for health insurance for me and my spouse each month. Im not in a manager position and at retirement will be looking at around $2000 a month which is pretty comporable to what I would get with Social Security if I paid into that system. Then pay my health insurance and I'm down to $1000 a month. I dont pay into it anymore but pay into PERA. I have paid into S.S. when I was younger but do not have enough credits to collect so that money basically went for others. My main point is why does the city want to waste money on things that we found we can do without, ie street lights and trash cans.
Welcome to our world in the private sector reasoning citizen...We got no raises, we did get pay cuts. We have to pay more for our insurance, and the public employees have been getting a break on insurance for years. That doesn't even touch all those who lost their jobs.
How about the city take care of the tax paying citizens!
As a city employee having not seen a raise in years, paying more in health insurance, with the cost of living increases how about helping out the employees. Why is the city going to waste money turning back on street lights that obviously didnt cause mass crime increases as some tried to say it would. Why put trash cans back in the parks? Obviously citizens carried their own trash out as I didnt notice large piles of trash in the parks I frequent on occasion. I understand fixing potholes but the mayor is missing the point. How about taking care of the city's biggest asset, the employees instaed of returning unnecessary services. We also lost 24 hours of vacation last year, how about returning that? Yeah I didnt think so even though it doesnt actually cost the city money. That was a numbers game to make the city council and mayor look good not actually saving the city money. It seems employees are always last around here.

This is a comment we received from Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation regarding the visit of Ret. Gen. Patrick Gamble to the Air Force Academy:
"The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) declares Gamble's "window-dressing survey team" as absolutely DOA; Dead On Arrival. Why? Because if this is not a genuine INVESTIGATION conducted by totally impartial, outside, aggressive and experienced investigators, especially given the egregious severity and historical numbers of Constitutional religious violations at the Air Force Academy, then this event never had a pulse of life to begin with. Further, the Pentagon has already stated that the marching orders for Gamble and his team of three fellow travelers is to ONLY take a "subjective look at the overall climate at USAFA relating to FREE EXERCISE OF RELIGION". Sadly, THAT myopic analysis is the very CORE of the fundamentalist Christian abusive disgrace at USAFA. The First Amendment has TWO clauses relating to religious freedom; the aforementioned Free Exercise Clause and "that other clause"; the one USAFA brutally and viciously violates with arrogant impunity, the No Establishment Clause. USAFA's train-wreck, long history of Constitutionally-violative religious oppression has ALWAYS sprung from it's blatant violations of the No Establishment Clause and NOT the Free Exercise Clause. The Air Force and Gamble are intent on barking up the putrescent, wrong tree. One must ask why? It is clear that neither Pentagon leadership nor Gamble and his small retinue of apparent rubber stampers have the slightest scintilla or even bare nuance of a clue as to the enormity of magnitude of the salient difference between these two seminal First Amendment clauses and how that makes ALL the difference at USAFA. Is this malfeasance or misfeasance? Does it even matter? It has been said that any sufficiently advanced incompetence is completely indistinguishable from malice. Ergo, MRFF pronounces the Gamble "assessment visit" as fatally flawed before it even arrives to inevitably confirm how superbly USAFA is following the Constitution on matters of religious freedom. Thus, without these imperative assurances that BOTH clauses of the First Amendment will be assiduously analyzed, MRFF will not produce a single of its 222 USAFA clients for Gamble's toothlessly flawed "survey team" to speak with!" Shame, shame on the Air Force yet once again."
When will we learn that drug prohibition is absolutely futile especially in the case of k2 herb products? Not all of this k2 incense stuff is illegal. For instance, http://www.k2incense.org offers several products that are completely legal in all of the United States and even beyond. They are constantly reformulating it to get around these bans so people will continue to legally buy k2 products and I guess the big dogs will continue to waste money on chasing it down.
Tancredo is all opportunist. He screwed the Reps and now turns his back on the ACP, expecting the Reps to take him back? That should be the end of his political career. No worries though .. I'm sure FOX News will find a place for him.
RE: Lamborn unsure on seating.... how about a seat in the little boy's room, since he isn't worth a .....
Tom Tancredo is opposed ILLEGAl IMMIGRATION. Your article states "opposition to immigration". There is a difference between immigration and ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
??? It's SDS, not SDI.
Your writing is impossible to understand.
SDI pipeline for the Big Play acrage. The original ranch was about 11000 a. Mobile Oil subsidiary bought up surrounding land and pasted it to 23,000 a. (same Mobile that ranked hotels for business aminities).
The water pipepline finance costs for $2.8 billion (2.8 x 1000 million) will now be increased upon the extended completion date of 2016 ? How much is the actual footage
to this genius award? How does this compare to latest Interstate footage construction cost? Do you now assume that the Reservoir level and the withdrawal allotment allowed will be as it is now for full pipe capacity use out to theoretic payback? Do you
now expect a population will exist that will qualify for Baning-Lewis mortage, sufficient number of contracts to cover water-demand = pipeline payback? Ecetera ?
SDI is a centralized dedicated scheme. Not flexible distribution. Not ready to perform.
Not meaningful for new industry. Not meaningful for smart transport.
I knew Day and from what I know and remember of him is that he's a good guy going through tough times. I agree, he should be suspended with pay until he has his day in court. I have no idea on why Jerry flipped, but it is unusually usual for the Maketa Mafia to stand behind him. That's mighty chivalrous of Maketa. From what I understand Day was going through trouble well long before this last incident. Their is also the "suspicion" of the Maketa-Day connection...that could be! Just remember folks, Maketa is losing all the political friends he had, look at Newsome...yeah that was a good friend to stand by! As time passes, the truth will be revealed about a lot of things from within that Office since Anderson left. But by then, no one will care and it will be just another SNAFU day in El Paso County, Colorado.
um this article is from 2008..."eyes checked"...that's funny
I think I know why cameras are allowed: Politicians - and their extended families - are immune to the tickets.
For example, in California 1.5 million private cars have plate numbers protected from easy look up, making them effectively invisible to agencies trying to process red light camera violations. (In CA the list includes local politicians, bureaucrats, retired cops, other govt. employees, and their families and adult children!) Someone should check to see how many, and who, are on the list in Colorado.
You'd think that all that would be needed to fix this inequity would be for the persons requiring protection of their home address to file their work address as the place for their tickets to be mailed to. Indeed, until August, there was a bill (AB 2097) in the Calif. legislature to do just that. But the politicians killed it - their excuse was that the cost of the paperwork involved in gathering and computerizing the work addresses was too great.
I urge everyone, everywhere, to call their legislators, their media, and their auto club about this class immunity from the tickets. Otherwise, the bureaucrats and politicians will keep laughing at us as we pay our fines.
This article's sub-title is incorrect. It states: "Three locations available for beating the Nov. 4 rush" but actually the Election day is November 2nd. The editor should gets his eyes checked if you didn't even notice something that simple.
Nice work on compiling all this information! Thank you! MP
