Re: “City brand: Is that all?

Council didnt approve this or assign it. This is an independent project from the CVB.

Re: “City ignores biggest issue

Ralph, Lisa C was the only Council member whos budget proposals were from new found revenue and not taken from current services or the reserve funds. Her bigger ones were essential services like street, alley and curb maintenance and she was the only one who proposed offering 3 more hrs of bus service to the main outs weekdays only so people who were dependent on public transit could get themselves home. All of her smaller proposals are pvt public partnerships. Indy was wrong with earlier report that most of her proposals were shut down. Big items like transit, infrastructure care, etc were but lot of her other ones were supported by Council. Also shows as much as she is in support of Mayor, she's not afraid to disagree with him when it comes to looking out for her district. How much longer is the Indy going to ignore this little lady? Republican or not she supports transit and is the only one who said anything about it.

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

Well, $110,000 used to be able to buy you a nice, house, a new car, pay for your kid's college, and have a little left for a retirement nest egg.
Now it get's a simple (not exciting, not fresh, hardly upbeat) pair of logos. It also gets explanations on how money collected as a tax on rental cars and hotel rooms isn't taxpayer money because apparently people that live here never ever ever use a rental car, or stay a night or two at local hotels for a getaway or so they can imbibe at a company holiday party.
Couldn't they have come up with something better? Maybe a term from the Ute language, a play on words regarding Pike's Peak, something that says send us your money?

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

"Mommy! Mommy! The king has no clothes!"

Ok, I hate to be the bearer of bad news... but the logo/slogan really sucks big time. Worse yet, has anyone seen the video? Steve Schuck needs to be cut out of it asap (it pays to be the mayor's No. 1 buddy, huh?). Lyda Hill should pay the EDC for getting a big plug in for her 7 Falls ad blurb. Where is there any mention of us being an Olympic city? The cost to buy this overpriced bragging right should have resulted in the USOC being the centerpiece of the video. But nothing. Zero mention.

Worst part of this ridiculous debacle? The $110k price tag. Who's brother-in-law was hired to produce this farce?

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

The brand / logo is a bit simplistic and doesn't really convey much of a message, which SEEMS to be that this is a place to exercise, i.e., the two people look like they're running. Is that some sort of tie-in to the USOC? Is so, no one will make the connection.

The companion video is just plain cheesy.

Our nation is sports-crazy, but they show NO shots of CC Tigers hockey, the Skysox, the slate of USAF football and other sports for all of which tickets ARE easy to get and affordable.

No views of the airport, Peterson AFB, Fort Carson?

Nothing about UCCS, CC or our many fine school districts or cultural attractions.

No mention of our hospitals. Why not? Much of the appeal is obviously aimed at retirees, who bring money but do NOT need jobs or schools, i.e., EASY money for the city.

They should forego the ancient, "man in the street" clips, everyone knows those are scripted, not spontaneous. That tee-shirted guy with a beard? Classy; women are swooning to meet him. The people get in the way of seeing the city, just show the city and do a voice over with off-screen commentators -- or do a music track with a crawler at the bottom.

A waste of money.

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

My mistake on term-limits, was thinking of County. But the face remains, City council people think they are worth nearly 6 figures a year after this and the USOC debacle? Puh-lease.

Re: “City brand: Is that all?

What a joke. City can't hardly afford to water the parks, run a decent bus service, or fund schools, but still spends $110,000 on a "re-branding" campaign? Whats to re-brand? This city is still filled by soulless chain restaurants, bible thumpers, irony unaware small government military dependent GOP'ers, and "where's the birth certificate" flat earthers. A sucky new slogan ripped of from the Skysox changes nothing. I couldn't help but appreciate the irony in the local daily "newspaper" yesterday, when right below the coverage of this story was another story about city council people, who crookedly extended their terms last election season, complaining about how they aren't paid enough. Really? Based on what I've seen I think members of the city council ought to be paying US to put up with their Bullsh*t.

Re: “City ignores biggest issue

Sorry, but the city should not be subsidizing the bus program. If the busses can make enough to cover their expenses, great. If not, then they need a new business model or need to go out of business. I didn't realize it is the city's responsibility to provide everybody subsidized transportation.

Re: “City ignores biggest issue

Routon hyperbole! "biggest issue", "most glaring, embarrassing problem", "#1 shortcoming". Really Ralph? With all of the serious issues to consider (jobs and property values, a balanced budget, to name just a few) this is YOUR number 1?
I agree it is a concern and am more than willing to pay for this service for the folks that need it. But, can't we do without the gross exaggerations?

Re: “City ignores biggest issue

Another task force to sit around and give lip servece to the transportation problems. The last city council gave $500,000 to a task force to study the problem and they gave their recomendation to the new city council. It has gone nowhere. We do not need a new task force we need money to operate a transit system as we have had in the past.

Re: “Wrong signal from Gill

Agreed! The Gill Foundation didn't come out properly.
An GLBT foundation can't admit to being forced out of the closet with out having sat down for dinner with the family? Bad to go wildly CEO reacting with strategy and financials for a foundation - big heart.

Re: “John-Alex Mason: gone too soon

I was one of the students he took on the Blues & Civil Rights trip three years ago. It remains the most influential three weeks of my life. John Alex was an exceptionally gifted and compassionate person, and his loss will be felt by everyone who ever heard his music. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain his wife and daughter are in. My heart goes out to them, and the rest of JAM's family. We love you, JAM and fam.

Re: “John-Alex Mason: gone too soon

We've lost not only a great, hugely dedicated musician, but a fine, caring, dedicated man in a most appalling way. My thoughts and condolences go out to the rest of the family, including his Ola, Viola Marigna, who's had to endure not only the loss of J-A, but also his father. An unbearable tragedy for his wife, mother and child. I'm sick with sorrow and grief. May you rest in peace, John-Alex, I will always remember you and the impact you had on my life. Your music will keep playing, here and in Sweden.

Re: “John-Alex Mason: gone too soon

I met John through the Open Stage I hosted at Sweet Rockin' Coffee in Denver, I believe I booked him for a couple of Dates for SRC. Super nice, SUPER talented and simply a jealousy/awe inspiring performer. Simply a sad tragedy and I pray for the surviving family. Must take a moment, hug the kids, wife, and try to get through a slide blues song in rememberance.

Re: “John-Alex Mason: gone too soon

I had the pleasure of meeting John Alex when we shared a condo for the Telluride Blues and Brews festival. He invited me to come to his show that evening at the Fly me to the Moon Saloon where he was performing a pre-festival show solo. The Moon has a reputation of drawing a high energy crowd, and here was John Alex playing solo with his cigar box two-string guitar and foot percussion setup. Within the first two songs of his set, he brought a packed house to their feet and played till the place was sweating hot. Song after song, he played his music, played his heart and soul. The guy had me stunned as to how he could get such a sound out of so little. But his voice, as large as he was in height, and his talent on his instruments were matched by an obviously God-given talent for playing the blues. And he obviously loved it. I ran into him a couple other times in Telluride the following years at the festival, and he always took the time to say hello, share his latest news on his music career, and spend some time talking. He will be missed greatly by many. My condolences to his family, especially his wife and children whom he always talked about with a smile.
